Another Trio Bonding Question

Hi, I’m new to the forum.  I was just reading the other thread on bonding the pair to the single rabbit.  Here is my scenario:

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on bonding 3 single rabbits?  I have a chance to get 2 of my single females adopted along with a single male that another friend has rescued to a good home.  The adopter is willing to take a pair  or a trio and if I can get 2 of my adoptables adopted (the females) – well, that’s even better for me and for the rabbits and she is a very experienced rabbit owner too.

Here’s some info on my 3 particular rabbits:

Mocha – single spayed female (about a year old) – she just recently lost her mother about 3 weeks ago whom she was bonded with.

Dora – about a 4 month old spayed female.

Linus – I don’t know how old he is but I guess he’s about 2 years old – I’m pretty sure he was full-grown when I rescued him, but then again – maybe not.  He’s currently with a friends mother who tried (but not very hard) to bond her with her spayed female rabbit.  His stories a complicated one.

 

I just wonder if I should put all three rabbits in the pen together and see what happens since none of the 3 are bonded to each other.

I’m just not positive what approach to take for this particular scenario.

Since none of them are paired, I would start with three together first, and if you find that two are stubborn about getting along, or all three seem to tense and want to fight right away, then pairing off with one on one time for each may be helpful. Just be sure to start in a neutral territory – basically the same rules apply as far as how and where to start (in Bonding section of this site)

The two females may prove to be tougher, but the fact that one of your female bunnies was already bonded to a female once may help. With rabbits, it really is soooo individual, that you just sort of have to see what happens before you can figure out a plan.

Do you know what aggression signs to look for?  Tail up, ears back – If you see that, then do your best to prevent them from fighting, but a little mounting (not the face though) by a willing participant is okay.

That was my first inclination to put them together in the pen to see what the dynamics are going to be like.

I figure since they are all unknowns to each other and it will be in neutral territory, I might get lucky and they will ignore each other instead of fighting.

I was extremely lucky in my last bonding in that the 2 rabbits were bonded in 2 days. 

I’ll let you know how this one goes – I’m very excited to try it and I like the challenge.

If anyone else has suggestions or has done this before with 3 "unrelated" rabbits I would love to hear your stories.
