Lola has yet another abscess coming out! it is on the same side as the other one two months ago but it is on the noze bone under the eye. It is somewhat medium size. Kinda like three cooked rice put together. It is moveable and still a little squishy but the vet is not open until Monday. Should i take her right away or just wait until monday?

Is there any way to prevent these abscesses from coming? She is actually on antibiotics so I dont understand why this is coming out. she still has a month of antibiotics to give.

I would think an absess isn’t an emergency and can wait until Monday; In your spot I would keep a close eye and watch for heat (if it feels hot) or any growth) and of course, ensuring she’s eating, pooping, peeing. Then of course you can go into an emergency vet! With today being a holiday, you’d have to see an emergency vet anyways so I’d say you could hold off until Monday. But I’m going to message the other leaders to see what they say as well!!

Yeah, that is what I thought. I just talked to my vet and he will see her monday so I will have to keep track of the bump all weekend. She acts unaffected by the bump. its not in her mouth or has to do with her teeth. I think it is just a remnant of the previous one. Im just surprised the penecillin is not working as i thought.

Abscesses can be very stubborn and tend to re-occur, but the fact that you now have experience and know what to look for, it`s the early detection that will pay off in spades, so good for you! Take her to the vet on Monday and give her a bunny hug from me! Poor Lola…

Jaw and face abscesses especially can be very stubborn. I am sorry it is returning. I know Rucy was switched to different kinds of antibiotics when one seemed to stop working. Unfortunately there isn’t a whole ot you can do regarding prevention accept to keep her stress free and you might want to try Tellingington Touch -  All to help promote a strong immune system. I know that Rucy’s flares up every now and then, but so far she hasn’t had to go back into surgery. I really do alot of T-touch when I think it may be returning.

But even if you try everything in the book, there is no guarantees that it won’t return. Abcesses can just be very difficult!

Keep us updated. I’m sending out healing vibes!

It depends on what is causing the abscess, and the type of antibiotic.  Is it a tooth abscess? Or is it from Pasteurella? Something else?

My Cinnamon had 3 abscesses in his face.  These were lanced and drained, then he was put on antibiotic (penicillin Benathine) injections for a year.  We stopped the injections a few months ago, just short of a year, so far he is doing great.

Yes, i went to the vet today. I just got her back. My vet took out the mass but he said once it was removed, he opened it and it was not an abscess but it was not a cyst or anything like that. He said it was just a hard mass of like i guess lump. he described it like a frozen grape that you cut open.

He told me to research Mast Cell Tumors in rabbits because he said it resembled that but he has only heard of it in cats and dogs. He has never seen a rabbit with this. Does anyone know about this? Advice?

He said if i found it was common on rabbits, we will take the lump to get cultured. If not, we will just leave it and let her heal. I am thinking it is just dead cells related to the previous abscess but I dont know.

She had a previous abscess about three months ago that was caused by the rood of her teeth. she had two teeth extracted and three surgeries. She has been on penicillin B…I think it is the same one mentioned. The previous abscess was somewhat near the location of this lump but who knows?

I’m glad it’s not an abcess. Poor bunny having 3 surgeries! Let us know about your research!

Ok well there is like 1 in a million chance it is mast cell tumor. It could be myxomatosis but that sounds pretty extreme and she is very happy go lucky right now and not blind.

I made a little booboo today tho…hehe! I was injecting the penicillin in her and i was pulling the skin over the needle so i dont go in deep. Like my vet taught me. I have been giving these shots to her for a while like two months already but today, The skin was just very thick and so I pulled the needle out because it felt somewhat wrong. then she was bleeding a little. I tried to clean it up with this rabbit wound care and wiped it away, its stopped bleeding…should i be worried? Im a worry freak

Anyway, my doc told me that they are not going to culture the hard mass extracted only because it is like 100 bucks and it doesnt look too harmful. I just wanted to make sure anyone who knows about this thing could tell me because I would hate to dump the mass and then she be all ill.

I really hope that someone who reads this can give me some good advice. I tool Lola to get her stitches out and the cut still looked a little open but it had a scab. Well, when i put her in my room, Cinnabon ran over, groomed her and pulled the scab off. He exposed the whole wound again. Not only a little cut but the whole area turned into a hole and i know that wouldnt be able to heal on its own. I took her back to the vet and he stapled her ‘hole’ together. I want it to heal as fast as possible.

One thing I am doing is seperating them at least till i see some inprovement. Then I applied neosporin, not plus, the original because I found it could help heal faster. Im nervous about the staples. Is there anything else I can do to speed up the process. She was in so much pain when Cinnabon took off the scab she peed everywhere. I just want to help her feel better.

                              HELP!
