Weird situation yesterday morning. I woke up and Olivia wasn’t begging for breakfast. She ate a tiny piece of lettuce but wouldn’t touch the rest. She was laying down, obviously not feeling well. I gave her some Ovol and then I had to leave for the mechanic’s and when I got back about an hour later she still hadn’t eaten. I gave her more Ovol and opened her cage and let her have the rabbit room to try to get her some tummy moving exercise. She wouldn’t eat but she was running around, chinning everything, like there was nothing wrong at all. Over the next 2 hours, she had free roam of the room and gradually ate her breakfast on the run. She pigged out on hay all afternoon. This has happened before once where she was sick all morning and then fine.

When I checked her litterbox there were lots of weird poops, the hairy stuck together double poops, some egg shaped poops and some teeny tiny ones. Her poops are normal today. She is shedding pretty bad but I’ve been brushing her every day. No change in diet to cause this.

Has anyone ever experienced this? A bunny who wants to run around but won’t eat?? Frustrating, but I guess it’s much better than a lethargic anorexic bunny.

she was probably feeling kinda icky, but it was not so bad… like a kid who is too sick to go to school, but not too sick to play video games… ;o)

of course, just continue to keep an eye on her…

I would say the majority of my rabbits don’t eat right when I put down their veggies – it’s pretty early though and they still seem to be snoozing even after I clean. I do come home and they have eaten their veggies though.

I imagine the poops are because she is shedding and ingesting the fur but it does sound like she is still going through the digestive tract. I would try to encourage her to eat more hay to help with the digestion. I think I would be more worried about a lethargic anorexic rabbit then an active rabbit who just isn’t ready to eat.

Yeh, I’d say with the running around she’s probably OK just keep an eye. I love Beka’s anaology-that’s pretty perfect!

I’m just not used to a bunny not eating all their breakfast. They always gobble up all there pellets and veggies as soon as I put them down, then have some hay and they have hay throughout the day as well.

yeah, and you know that’s why it’s so important to “know” your bunnies. some buns like Sarita’s will pace themselves, others attack the food like they’ve never seen food before and never will again… you know what’s normal for yours…

Well, I hate to say it, but I often find poops like what you described in my buns’ litterboxes. Usually they haven’t been eating enough hay and are shedding or barbering themselves if they happen to be bored.

Also, I notice I can’t let them have certain things to chew on…wooden blocks, cardboard. And any over indulgence of treats will wonk out their GI tracts as well and they get kind of lethargic.

Even so, when I put them int he xpen on days like this, they usually do better after a day of movement. Perhaps Olivia is not getting enough exercise?

She’s fine now. Doing lots of eating and pooping. She did zooms on the couch last night for about 20 minutes!

Oh that’s good to hear! ^_^ Don’t you just love the zooms? Fiver is real good at those. I keep expecting him to reach orbital velocity.
