…Or is he just a heffer?

Felony gets about half a cup of pellets every morning, plus unlimited hay and about a cup of veggies a day. When I go to feed him pellets in the morning, he goes absolutely berserk, running around me like he hasn’t eaten in years. He’s a lion, weights probably around 3-4 lbs. He’s not a big guy, mostly fur. Am I feeding him enough or is he just a piggy?

I would say it is normal. But that is just me. You’d think we never feed my rabbit. In the morning when we go to fill the pellet bowl she’s stomping around and pacing in front of the cage door. Then when she sees the bowl coming she tries to shove her head in it before you can get it all the way down. I’m pretty sure she’s not starving just overly excited.

It is very normal – I have 8 bunnies and ALL of them pretend they are “starving” every time the pellets come around. I think that it is just natural for them to get excited because they see the pellets as “treats.” As long as your bunnies have unlimited hay and some veggies, they have all they need to stay full (much as they would like to convince you otherwise!)

Good to know. He’s such a spaz! You’d think with all the paper he eats each day he’d be super full!

Are you doing a poll? I vote heffer…just kidding! They fool you into thinking there starved, when the have all that hay right there. I think the pellets are a bit of a treat to them.
I commented last night that it’s like kids when they react to colours and preservatives, bunnies with pellets. Jersey does laps and figure 8’s around my legs when I’m getting the pellets. Sometimes, with humming, sometimes with growling. I’ve just noticed Rumball get’s excited now too, runs back and forth and head binkies. Froot loops for bunnies!

Oh yeah, Felony comes full speed and runs circles around my legs as I’m carrying the pellets to his bowl. He’s such a psychotic animal!

I remember posting the same question a while back. Yes, my bunnies do the same thing! It’s absolute mayhem in my house in the AM and PM! My bunnies run around in circles and practically eat the pellets right out of their bowl before I can put it down! They are not starving…they are just happy.

My bunnies have the same reaction at pellet time and veggie time- and since they get pellets am and pm- they do this 3 times a day!  Not to mention they get excited when I refill the hay bin- every other day or so.  And at treat time.  Though the “wind up” is not as big as pellet and salad time- since they know when they see me grab the bowls it means FOOD!

I know someone whose bun had the “I’m starving!!!” face down so well that while she was home sick one day she heard ALL THREE of her housemates in sequence  go “oh – poor thing.  Did she forget to feed you? *rattle of pellets*”.  This was when she began to fear her bunny.

they sure do try to convince you they are starving thats for sure…. even tho you know they aren’t

                          I feet my 2 lionheads 3-4 lbs   1/8 pellets 2x a day… that seem sufficient.

I try not to overdo the pellets. Two of my buns can’t tolerate too many pellets no matter the brand, gives them poopy butt (and also a disease called ‘spare tire’). Mimzy doesn’t really have an interest in them. He’ll munch on them overnight, but for the most part if I put too many in, I have leftovers in the morning.

However, one must be EXTREMELY careful of how loud one says the word “cookie” in their presence. You’d think it was an uprising at Alcatraz with how loud the cage bars rattle at the mention of treats! 0_o

                            lolz…wendyzski! xD

Hahaha, my rabbit, Bibbins does that! You say, “BIBBINS! You want your BUNNY-MIX?” and he runs circles around your feet for his pellets and you can’t even pour them into his dish because his face is already in the bowl!

My husband and I always joke, “Look at that rabbit! He’s starvin’!!!!”
