Jack and Viv are on a greens/veggie only diet because he has had a type of bladder stone that can return, and hydration is one of the key components of prevention. Though I do sneak a tiny little bit of pellets to Viv about once a week.
I ditto Sarita – it’s important to get a wide variety of greens.
Here’s Jack & Viv’s Main List (sometimes I’ll add something new, or replace with something else if one or two veggies are out, but this is the main everyday list)
- Lettuces – romaine, curly, red, endive (lettuces may not be full of nutrition, but still help with hydration)
- Dill
- Mint
- Rosemary
- Arugula
- Basil
- Oregeno
- Cilantro
- Celery (cut in 1/2″pieces) – another low nutrition, but high hydration
- Parsley (higher in calcium, but a duiretic which helps with flushing the system)
- Dandelion (higher in calcium, but a duiretic which helps with flushing the system)
- Carrots – He doesn’t get an equally sized portion as everything else – About 4 baby carrots
- Sweet Potato – About five little cubes
- Occasionally add – Broccoli OR Bok Choy OR Brussel Sprouts (These can be gas causing for some bunnies)
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SWEET POTATO: This is higher in carbs/starch and is not normally recommended, but because pellets have been removed, a small amount sweet potato and carrots will add the needed extra vitamins and carbs Jack needs while providing hydration. (This was my vets recommendations)
