With the holidays, I think that the child and husband have been sneaking Ms Coco a bit more papaya and other treats than normal.

Leading to smooshy cecals and overproduced cecals that she is leaving here there and everywhere.

I flipped her over and did a bum check – she looks fairly clean – some dried remnents ( didn’t do an anal gland check, as I was already tramautized by the smear of cecals all over my bed and there is only SO much one human can be expected to deal with at any given time)

Watched all yesterday and today – and made it official – All Hay for two days ( I think Sarita wrote this tip AGES ago?) No pellets. No treats.

Small Salads of already known greens ( parsley, romaine and mint) morning and late afternoon.

Hopefully two days will be enough to rid the clean up the poopybutt??

I hope that works for her. It may take a few more than 2 days but hopefully not. I have a rabbit that doesn’t get any pellets right now or treats other than papaya tablets and I think it’s slowly starting to help – he’s losing weight (or at least looks like it) too. He’s got other issues too though like arthritis which I think contributes to his poopy butt problem since he probably cannot clean himself as well with the arthritis.

Hmm. This may be the case with Pip as well. She tends to go through bouts of leaving cecals and I can’t isolate the cause. Would it really be okay to limit her to only unlimited hay and one romaine leaf once in the a.m. and once in the p.m.?
I went in to clean this morning and OMG…what a stink! >o< I picked up no less than four piles of smeared cecals all over the cage and there were some in the litter box as well. I may actually have to cut out some of the greens as well, maybe it is making her digestive tract too fluid.

Well. we have one full day down with the Hay and 2 salad diet for Coco – and while she doesn’t seem THRILLED – she is eating the hay with a gusto normally reserved for the tinkling of the Papaya tablets container.

Her energy seems a bit more – and I am seeing a change ( small) in her dry droppings. I am also making sure that the greens aren’t soaking wet ( a tip for BB in her Diet for Bailey section). I did that in the summer as I worried about her being dehydrated, but perhaps it is simply too much water in the Montreal Winter.

I never realized what a “treat seeker” she was until I cut her off. She has taken to sticking her bunny nose into anything that a human is eating and trying to get a lick in. I suspect she was collecting crumbs and anything else she could find. I caught her trying to get a bit out of a bowl that had the remnants of a “Christmas Log”- and by the time I saw her, I do believe she got a good frosting bit.

Heheh Sounds like the family was sneaking her treats…Dave did that to Rupert a little whlie ago-I let him steam clean the carpet where the cecals smeared and low and behold-he’s no longer over-treating Rupert I bet the hay will help dry her right up

Oh dear, I love yule logs! ^_^ I used to order them from Swiss Colony years ago but I’d love to make one fresh. One of these years maybe.
Good to hear she has interest in her hay. I can be glad that’s one thing that, if I forget to replace it often enough, Pip will let me know in no uncertain terms that she wants some…and NOW!
