All Hay Diet

So overall Moonpie is doing pretty well. He has met the cat, and they seem to not care one bit about each other. He is coming out a bit more, and there are always plenty of binkys when he does. The boyfriend has decided he is the best pet ever, and is telling me how I need to get more rugs for him to explore.

The only thing that concerns me is that he is still refusing to eat any veggies or pellets. I have tried giving him everything under the sun just to see if he is interested, but he won’t touch any of it.  I’ve even tried giving him some banana, and strawberry, but he just acts interested, sniffs, then ignores it. He is eating tons of hay, but I know veggies are important part of their diet. Should I be concerned at all? He is acting normal, and pooping a ton. He’s only been here a week, so I know he still may be settling in, but is there a point where I should be more worried about his diet consisting only of hay?

Of course as I post this he eats the parsley I just put in his bowl (which he has been ignoring all week!!). Though I still have the same question, since he has not touched anything but hay for most of his time here.

Good to hear he is eating the parsley! Do you know what kind of pellets and veggies he was given at the shelter? If his diet has changed after coming home with you, he could just be a finicky bun that takes a little while to get used to new food.

I am feeding him the same pellets he was getting at the shelter, as well as the same hay (though he only got the hay once a day). As for veggies they rarely ever had any, maybe once a month. They have 300 bunnies at the shelter, so it’s pretty hard to get fresh vegetables for all of them,

Dont worry, hes probably still getting used to everything. It took my guy about a month to actually eat hay! It was a frustrating month. Keep trying! One day he will eat them You also might want to try a different type of pellets!

I think at this point I wouldn’t worry too much. I bet eventually he will start getting interested in the veggies – rabbits can be so funny (just like children) with those food items that they don’t recognize. At least he loves his hay :~) But yes, you are right, it’s probably not going to eat all his nutritional needs in the end.

Well seems like I was worried too soon. He has been devouring all the veggies I have given him, though he still is ignoring his pellets. Of course he decides to change his mind about being picky as soon as I post something.

Haha, silly little bun! I’m glad to hear that he’s settling in…I’m sure he’ll come around to his pellets soon enough .
