Quick question……  I read that the best hay for baby bunny is alfalfa, is that true or does it not matter???

alfalfa is higher in calories, so it’s good for a growing bunny. i never gave my bunny (who i got at 4 months) alfalfa, we just did timothy right away. you could also give a mixture of both. that will help her get used to the timothy. at 7 months, she needs to start getting switched over to an all timothy diet.

I agree with Beka – she needs the timothy hay too. I would give her a handful of the fresh alfalfa hay as well.

I always did a mix of alfalfa and timothy when she was younger and started phasing out the alfalfa a little bit at a time when she was a year old. now it’s a treat!

It also depends if you are feeding a timothy-based or alfalfa-based pellet food. If you are feed timothy-based pellet food, then I would offer alfalfa hay, if you are offering alfalfa-based pellets, then I would offer timothy hay and only a handful of alfalfa hay. Alfalfa has a lot of calcium in it and so I would not want to over-feed it. Too much calcium can be a bad thing – kidney stones and bladder stones/sludge.
