        So I’m leaving tomorrow for California. I won’t be back until the 1st.  I will miss my bunny. He’s got an experienced bunnysitter coming over every day to check on him and feed him and whatnot so I know he’ll be taken care of, but I’m still gonna worry about him. I’m bringing tons of pictures of him with me to show my family, so I’m sure by the time I leave they’ll all think I’m nuts for being a total slave to a bunny rabbit. LOL

        Anyhow, I was thinking I’d start a fun and interesting forum topic for you all to discuss while I’m gone, so that when I get back I will have all of your fun and interesting answers to read!

        So here it is: What does your bunny’s name mean and/or why did you name your bunny what you did?

        Lion-O is named after a character from an old cartoon The Thundercats. He was named Lion-O by my boyfriend because he is a lionhead rabbit and he looks an awful lot like a lion.

          Cute topic

          Yuuki, male Lionhead: means Courage in Japanese. I have been going through a really rough time and I needed some courage…
          Kibou, female Lionhead: means Hope in Japanese. She came after Yuuki…an hope and courage go together.
          Smile, female Holland lop: she has a Smile shape on her back
          My male Lop is still unnamed! Gah…!

            first off, i’m not a fan of object or descriptive names for pets.  all of my animals have had real people names (Misty, Benny, Sheila, Jimmy, Tommy… and i could go on.)  it’s just a personal preference, not a judgement on others, i think it helps to make them feel a part of the family.

            my first bunny Stephen was named after a Grateful Dead song, Saint Stephen

            the first verse…

            "Saint Stephen with a rose
            In and out of the garden he goes
            Country garland in the wind and the rain
            Wherever he goes the people all complain"

            Meadow was going to be named after something Grateful Dead related… either Stella (the song "Stella Blue&quot, Delilah (the song "Samson & Delilah)…

            or Julie (the song "Row Jimmy&quot

            the first verse…

            "Julie catch a rabbit by his hair
            Come back step, like to walk on air
            Get back home where you belong
            And don’t you run off no more"

            her name is actually a little bit silly.  we were driving home with her and i was petting her on my lap (and she’s a mini rex so you know she’d unimaginably soft…) and she was just so delicate and sweet (this was pre-princess of course) and she had these beautiful dark eyes, plus dark fur surrounding her eyes.  the show, The Sopranos had just ended the last month and for some reason it just came to me, i wanted to name her Meadow after the Soprano’s daughter.  really silly i know… but it just fit her somehow.  and she’s so spoiled now, that it’s absolutely perfect (and i really think she could’ve been a gangster in a previous life… lol.)

              Haha this is cheesy but —

              My favorite band of all time is Hanson — yes the MMMboppers! I still follow their music and on their last album underneath had a hidden track called lullabelle.

              After I got lullabelle, i was trying to figure out what I should name her, and i had forgotten i left the cd on and the song came on and i was like ah hah! thats it! It was rather funny since there is a 13 minute silence between the last track and the hidden track and i had been in the room a few minutes. It just popped on at the right moment!

                cute thread   i got baby from a pet store back before i had any idea about how many buns needed rescuing.  i had just found out my dad had terminal cancer and my new roommate at the time turned out to be a total phycho so my home felt really unstable to me.  feeling crap, i went into this pet store & saw her in a display window with a bunch of other wee buns… she was all by herself in the corner and she looked so afraid.  ppor thing.  that line from dirty dancing sprang to mind… nobody puts baby in a corner…  and i couldn’t resist getting her out of there.  baby just semed to fit because she was so wee & cute, plus when i adopted her i had a 1yr old holland lop so in comparison she was the baby.

                  What memories I loved the movie Dirty Dancing and Hanson was my 22 year old daughter’s favourite group.

                  My Ebony was named after Paul McCartney’s Ebony and Ivory song and when I stroke her little nose and around her eyes I sing her that song, she must like it because she closes her eyes and looks like she’s in lala land. Either that or she’s wishing I would shut up. LOL

                    aww this is a fun thread.

                    both Pandora and Hareiette had their names when we adopted them, they’d also been in foster care for a while so knew their names.
                    Viktor came from the shelter, but was named Soot. He was not a Soot, so we asked him what name he liked. We were lucky to have the one rabbit haven volunteer who can talk to the animals there that day. So, We gave him a bunch of choices and he liked Viktor. I then asked if he liked the middle name Krum. He said he liked it because it made people smile.

                      Both of my rabbits had first names when I adopted them and I expanded upon them:

                      Dutchess Victoria Antoinette Bojangles was originally just “Vicky.” Dutchess because she’s a Dutch bunny, Victoria Antoinette because they are regal names and she acts like the queen in the castle, and Bojangles because one of the bunnies I had really wanted to adopt (but ended up not) was named Mr. Bojangles and I think the name is hilarious.

                      Brambles Flannigan was just “Bramble” when I got him, he seems Irish to me and wanted to give him a proper Irish name and at the time I was listening to the song “Flannigan’s Ball” by the Dropkick Murphys.

                        Pepper came from the shelter as "Annabelle Lee", which was WAAAAY too girly for my spunky little bunny-girl.  Plus the Poe poem is bloody depressing.

                        I came across "Pepper" as a name on here, and it suited, because she is black and white and spicy.

                        I also call her Pepper-Warrior Princess, and Miss Pepper-Pants.

                          Maryann was named after the character on Gilligan’s Island. The shelter figured since she was found on the beach and was a ‘castaway’ from the other buns that it fit.

                          Could have been worse – I could be calling her “Mrs. Howell” or “Luvvy”.

                            Our first bun was Bailey, named because he’s the colour of Bailey’s Irish Cream. We adopted Reno from the shelter and since she’d already had the name for 3 years we figured she was probably used to it. We then adopted a wee little black bunny which we named Keiran (Irish/Gaelic in origin, meaning "black&quot. Unfortunately Keiran wouldn’t eat and there was nothing we could do for him. He’d been the smallest of the litter at the shelter and was just so cute, but even with bottle feeding him KMR he didn’t make it . Aeryn is another Irish/Gaelic one, meaning "daughter of Eire", and was also the name of a character in Farscape – the character had a lot of attitude and our Aeryn has a lot of rabbitude so it’s a good fit. And the last is Tegan, which is Irish/English meaning "Good looking". And she’s such a cutie.

                            – Annette

                              I dunno – both of those names would totally crack me up! Imagine a bonded pair Mr & Mrs Howell.  You’d have to make them a very swanky bunny bungalow.

                                Poor Kahlua had her name pretty much given to her as it matched Kokanee’s name!

                                Kokanee was named as I was completely at a loss for a bunny name until she hoped up and starting chewing a box of Kokanee beer…Very unoriginal but she does have her own sign (a bar sign my boyfriend was given)! I am still on the look out for a kahlua sign

                                  I am also one of those people that “asks the bunny their name” – I think that is how all of my bunny’s ended up with people names I usually just lay down on the floor to get eye level with them and ask them what their name is – and one usually pops into my head! I think the name Kramer popped into my head for Kramer because I got him when he was a cute little happy-go-lucky baby bun, and was always doing these funny jumps and twists and loooved to lay on his back in beams of sunlight!! Juli and Henri wer already named (though, we changed the spelling to end with an I because I was living on “rue Henri Royer” when Brian adopted Henri). Raymond I reminds me a lot of Raymond Barone (in Everybody Loves Raymond) – he makes this cute little clueless bunny face. And Grace got her name before I had her, but its because she was dumped in the Forest, and the park ranger said that if she had been out there even longer than two hours she would have been eaten (because of her blindness) so it was amazing taht someone found her within such a short time of her being dumped (Amazing Grace!!)

                                      My two buns were named because I love astronomy. I took an astronomy class in college (Go Rutgers!) and it was one of the classes I actually loved. Luna is my girl. She was mostly white when she was a baby but now she’s dusty but she still looks like a round little moon. Nova is my boy, he’s black with white paws and a white streak on his forehead and a white nose. A nova is a white dwarf star that has an explosion. He was very tiny when I got him and I know this is gonna sound dumb, but the white streak reminded me of a falling star passing by. and he would suddenly pop up and zoom around. My boyfriend got an albino mini-lop a few years ago (altho she lives with friends now because he goes to school out of town) and named her Bunchi because she loved bunching up in corners of the house. Don’t tell him I said that :-P. So that is how I got Luna and Nova. The next bunny name will be astronomy related too. I foresee many bunnies in my future. lol

                                        My nerdiness will show…

                                        Simon and River are brothers, and are named after characters in the show Firefly . Now, fellow nerds will say “But River is a GIRL!” This is true, but we didn’t find out River was a he until he went in to be fixed!

                                        Dexter is named after the title character in the book/TV show Dexter. It seems to fit him, though he is a lover, not a killer.

                                          God I loved Thundercats HOOOOOOOOO! He’s such a cool bunny!!

                                          Brian Bubblebum is named after a gorgeous little man we know in Gran Canaria, Bubblebum because he had a little bubbly tumtum when he was little, he became Mr Buggers simply because he is a little bugger.

                                          Bettie Bean after Bettie Page – gorgeous woman who needs no explaining, Bean because she was a little ginger lionhead baby Heinz Baked Bean, now known as Sweaty …Sweaty Bettie, only because here we generally tend to say (however endearingly or not) after a hard days work, “cor i’m a bit sweaty betty today…and so became the Sweaty Betster! 🙂

                                            you all have such good stories about your buns names! I chose names before I offically adopted my two little ones… and before I knew they were both girls (oops!) I always like my animals to have people names so I settled on Annabelle and Stewart (my friends will never get tired of making rabbit stew jokes). My mother still thinks I should change Stweart’s name to something girly, but she’s the more dominant of the two so I think it’s okay

                                              Well, let’s see:

                                              Mango – came named that way;
                                              Peaches & Peppermint – I have no earthly idea – just thought it sounded cute;
                                              Panda – sounded cute;
                                              Emmy – she came with that name;
                                              Toffee & Twizzler – I like candy;
                                              Maxine – just came to me and this name really suits her;
                                              Pepe – came with that name;
                                              Jingles – got him around Christmas and I’m sure he hates that name;
                                              Giselle – the name just came to me.

                                                  It’s funny how some names you may try or start off with just really don’t suit your pets. Brian would have been Derek if the boyfriend had his way but it just wasn’t right somehow. And when Bettie was wrongly accused of being a boy I couldn’t stand Bert, and so it became Weeny Bean.
