Does anyone have recommendations for pet air purifiers? We might be getting other pets in the future but for now it’s mainly for Bentley and allowing us to be breathe without fur up our noses 😆

I do not have an air purifier, but there are three main things that have been helpful for me re: allergies/irritation from hay and fur:

          1. Face mask – How timely, and these have a dual-use now due to the pandemic (haha?). I have a set of fabric face masks that I use when I change litterboxes and interact with their hay. I just have a hook by the hay storage and litterbox supplies and throw it on quickly whenever I do those tasks. It really helps with dealing with any dust/fur that come up while shifting and moving things around during cleaning/replenishing.
          2. Reusable lint rollers – I have a set of 3 of these lint rollers that are really helpful to quickly run over their cage, furniture, and places they like to sleep on my carpet. They pick up a ton and also are easy to continue to use without being wasteful with the peel-off lint rollers. It will be a long time before these get damaged enough that I cannot use them, but I have been really interested in getting one or two of these OXO ones because they seem really cool. I just can’t justify buying them when I have three less-fancy, but still usable ones already, haha.
          3. Grooming next to a trashcan/outside – I now do a lot of grooming outside or while carrying them and being right next to a trash can, so everything I pull goes directly into the trashcan. Saved me a lot of sniffles throughout the day. I also wear a mask during this as well!

Hi Wick! Surprisingly his hay isn’t much of a problem, but since he is heavily molting, his fur is everywhere in our home haha. I was hoping the air purifer could help more with dust and pollen as my mom is much more sensitive to those and suffers from asthma as well and if it happens to also help with some drifting fur then great!

I really want to try the reusable lint roller though, we had the peel off ones until I used up all of them and couldn’t fine replacments. Do you know if these might work on the bunny himself? As weird as it sounds, bentley actually likes the lint roller being used on him lol.

I have tried the lint roller on my Fable and it does not work, hahaha.  The reusable ones use fabric texture to grab fur, rather than stickiness, so it’s a different mechanism, though I argue more effective for surfaces. On the rabbit itself, it doesn’t do much unfortunately.

I have a small air purifier I turn on in my room with my rabbit that helps keep the mustiness out, and traps dust and bunny fur. It does have a cord, so I either only use it when I’m in the room or place it up higher.

I have a hepa filter we got at Goodwill for like 12 bucks. It’s been great! I do think it keeps the dust down, but not sure I would have sprung for a full price one!

Side note: I use those sticky lint rollers on my buns, and they work really well! Bun Jovi loves them and likes it a lot more than being combed, but Myra seems to prefer a regular brush.  I hate wasting the plastic sheets, but after BJ got stasis a year ago due to a molt I don’t mess anymore around when he is shedding a lot.

A super cheap hack to make an air filter is to get a box fan and tape one of those air filters for home ventilations systems to one side.

Does anyone have suggestions on an air purifier? I’ve read quite a few reviews and it seems there are a variety of good ones (BlueAir 411, Dyson Hot/Cool, Honeywell) and some over-hyped poor quality (Molekule) but was wondering if anyone could provide input. I live in an 800 sq foot apartment and my budget is $150-250, although I’ve contemplated splurging for the Dyson [link removed]. I also read that changing out filters multiple times throughout the year will add maintenance costs, so wouldn’t be opposed to spending more initially to have a filter that needs to be replaced less. Any suggestions?
