Archie hasn’t done this for about a week now but I guess in the middle of the night he started digging again.  He digs in his litter box; so you can imagine his cage is quit a mess!    I tried a digging box with shredded newspapers but the problem there was when he was in the shelter for about 2 months they put shredded paper in his litter box, so he was a bit confused and thought he had 2 litter boxes and didn’t dig in it.  I don’t have any extra yellow pages (but I might try to see if my in-laws have any extra today) but I have a feeling he wouldn’t be interested in that.  I’ve put newspaper down and scrunched it up for him to scratch at but nothing.  I don’t really think he’s all into toys but then again I haven’t experimented with that yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions???  I’m tired of cleaning his whole cage every week.    Oh and a side note; he’s not allowed to go behind the couch anymore because he digs at the carpet…and tries to bite our couch

a diggy towel might work.  Bun may enjoy digging at it smoothing it out nibbling on it.  If he likes the idea he may chew a little hole here in there in the towel.  Unless he is eating a lot of it I wouldn’t be concerned.  I do know HB nibbles on his towel and I see little pieces of it here n there so I know he isn’t eating it.

Rose does that. Ive found that its only minor digging as long as i change the litter everyday instead of every other day and give her a blanket to dig. I was going to make a grid to go over the litter box but i wasat petsmart the other day and found a cat litter box that has a grid attached to the box. Its removable and the pee can go through to the litter and the hay can cover the grid so it will be easy on the feet. Rose’s poops are to big to go through so they will sit on top but at least she wont be digging. Havent gotten one yet because i didnt have the money on me and havent gotten out there since. But im pretty excited about it.

I saw a litter box when I first started shopping for rabbit stuff when we got him and actually saw a rabbit litter box (but it was for the corner and smaller) that had the grids and thought that was neat.  I cut up part of a fleece blanket that we weren’t using for him; so we’ll see what happens.  Hopefully it’ll work!  Thanks!

I tried the digging towel. He dug a little bit in his litter. There was a little piece of the towel in his cage and he likes to chase it around; so I found a new toy for him haha! He seems very picky when it comes to toys. I’m thinking about getting the maze for him to play with, we’ll see though.

Speaking of litterboxes, I love my new litter box. I got it in the cat section at Petsmart (came in blue or pink in kind of a see through plastic). The back is so tall and the sides are tall. There is no way your bun could dig his litter or hay out of it. Ruff used to pee over the side of his box and once we got this one, there is no way he could have any more accidents. So, I guess my point it to try a different box.

That’s great!  I’ll see if I can find it at our local Petsmart tomorrow.  It was frusturating cleaning his liter and then coming back and seeing he dug 1/2 of it out.

I couldn’t find that cat litter box there (plus all the cat litter boxes were huge and there wouldn’t be any room in his cage then), so they had a pretty good sized corner litter with grates and I bought that.

We also bought different bedding, thinking he didn’t like the other kinds (cell sorb and yesterdays news).  We bought a small thing of carefresh.  He did the same thing!  He dug a little but he more or less was pushing the litter to smooth it out.  So I put the other box with the grates in it and put some of his poops in it.  But he didn’t like it and started going poop outside of it.  Ugh!  I put his other litter box back in his cage and tried switching it to the other side of his cage.  Watch now he’s just going to be confused and go to the bathroom everywhere.

Whenever I change Buster’s litterbox, he immediately jumps in and digs and pushes ALL the litter to the sides so there is a big empty hole in the middle. I try and fix it so the middle is not bare but he fixes it back like he wants… After he is done, thats it! He doesn’t dig in there again… he has a diggy towel that he just goes to town on… He loves it! Digs and throws it all over… He digs at the floor of his cage furiously to no avail, poor thing!

He digs either the middle or the corner of his litter.  I think it’s more that he gets mad or he’s bored.  I put a towel in with him but he doesn’t do anything with it that much.  He’s so hard to please, he doesn’t like any toys I buy or make for him.  I’m hoping when we finally buy a bigger cage he’ll stop.

I try to let him out after my husband leaves for work (around 1:30), sometimes we let him out before that.  I sometimes put him back in when I’m fixing dinner since I can’t cook and watch him at the same time.  And I take him out at night.  I think he’s the most active around 11pm, runs like crazy, binkies and all that.  I think he sleeps around 2 or 3; I’ve caught him a few times in his cage sleeping.  I’m the only one home when my husband leaves, so sometimes my parents invite me over to eat supper, but as soon as I get home I let him out and give him a treat so he’s not too mad at me.

I did put a cardboard box with a hole in it and put his towel in that.  He kind of seems to like it…he was digging at the cardboard at midnight, but it was something to keep him active.
