List pictures of your Agouti Cuties – I’m not entirely certain what makes a rabbit Agouti colored other than I think these 2 are Agouti’s – they have the wild rabbit coloring. I’m certain there’s more to it genetically than just having wild coloring though.
The first photo is Pepe – he’s my aggressive rabbit but he’s getting better.
The second is Toffee who is in the foreground and that’s her sister/mother/daughter (not sure if they are even related to tell you the truth) but they came from the shelter as a pair.

Awwww how cute!!! I wondered what Pepe looked like!! (You don’t want another Pepe in chocloate-lop do you?
)
Sure K&K then I can have matching bite marks on each arm ![]()
look at those cute chunky bunnies!!! So pretty!
Yes, most of my rabbits are on the large side – except for my 3 Dutches.
I think bunnies are supposed to be a little chunky. Jared keeps saying that Boston needs to lose weight, but i like her tubbiness! ![]()
How many big bunnies do you have? They are gorgeous! And I find it costs a lot to feed my 3 small rabbits
I would much rather have any pet a wee bit chuncky than too thin.
Theres beautiful, the couloring i mean. Wild bunnys are so cute! Especally here, in the north we have artic hares and they blend right inwith the snow XD
I have too many LPT – I have 9. The majority except for Pepe are over 7 years old. It seems like I’ve been losing a few every year. These were all rabbits that I rescued when I had a small fostering group and they were intended to be adopted out but these were the rabbits that no one wanted because of size, behavior problems, breed, etc…:~( I have 2 pairs, 2 single males and 3 single females.
all right! a chance to show off the most beautiful color! Pepe’s a handsome fellow, but in my completely *cough* unbiased *cough* opinion, here’s the most beautiful agouti bunny in the world………ta da!
My beautiful Hershey (7 years old)

Awww! Definitely cuties! ^_^ What would the next thread be titled…Toppy Loppies? Puffy Fluffies? lolz…the combinations are endless! I love it!
But this thread brings to mind Lightchick’s Robbie…do any of you think that certain bunnies can be genetically predetermined to ‘fiesty’? (I’m trying to phrase my question delicately, as I am seeing a lot of agouti rabbits it seems that have ‘temper problems’.)
But then there’s rabbits like Sarah’s Binkles, who seemed to have the disposition of a saint. So that doesn’t make sense then.
I think every time I see an agouti rabbit, i think of Hazel, from Watership Down. They do look like their wild cousins and I have grown to appreciate their beautiful color more as I have been here at the board.
‘Agouti’, to my understanding, is just the basic colour pattern you see on a wild bunny. If you look at a a single strand of their fur, you should be able to see three distinct sections of colour in it; white, grey, brown. Gives them that prismatic sheen. It can also apply to ‘chinchilla’ (grey) agoutis as well.

Binkles was a very well-behaved bunny for the most part. Oh sure, she was a digger. And a chewer. I have two small sections of missing carpet in the corners down to the floorboards.
Rest assured, the baseboards are nice and chewed. *Refers to second pic* And she was definitely an alpha bunny; she was the queen and could dissapprove with a vengance. But she never had any real behavioural problems. Excellent litterbox habits from the day she came home, never bit a person in her life.
Groomed my hair for hours on end almost every night..*sighs and reminsices*
Edit: As a sidenote, I ALMOST named Binkles ‘Hazel’ -before I even knew anything about Watership Down. It was down to about three or four names; Binki, Agouti, Hazel, and Chestnut. (And thus, ‘Agoutii’ became the prepetual last name of my warren. xD)
He is sort of the same color as Ruffles, except Ruffles is a little more gray. The vet who I got him from called him violet colored. What would be the difference between violet and agouti?

My Honeygirl is an agouti variation
I made the picture bigger so you can see the different colors. From far away you’d swear she’s a solid color.
Agouti isn’t so much a colour as it is a pattern. ![]()
Edit:
*Looks at Little-Bit and Binkles and then looks at BunnyBallet’s bunnies* …woah!
gorgeous, all of them! my first bun, Stephen, was a broken bun who had agouti type spots on him.
I was wondering, is Tabitha Agouti? She looks a bit like a couple here….
(She’d back up the Agouti-temperment theory LOL She’s actually a suck, but very cage defensive -no biting, just lunge-growl; And no plucking her loose fur, you’ll get lunged at LOL
)

Tabitha’s gorgeous!
Hershey was cage agressive too when she first came home with us, they said she was born at the sanctuary and lived there all her 6 years.
When she moved in with Simba and found she now had a box-castle to hide in and, it was like MINE! ALL MINE! STAY AWAY!! She’d box any hand or food that came near the cutout holes.
Finally she’d stick her nose out enough to snatch a treat from your hand in a very exaggerated way like FINE, I’LL TAKE YOUR STUPID TREAT NOW GO AWAY! You’d walk by the condo and see this eyeball glaring at you from the darkness of the box…lol. She was so funny.
It’s been fun watching her adapt, now she spends most of the time out in the open and will hang over the condo wall when I come in letting me pet her all over her body now.
look at tabitha’s big bunny nose!!! cute!

Zippy & Marley
Tabitha looks like an agouti to me ![]()
Look at those beautiful brown eyes, I may have to bun nap Marley. I would love to have a pack of brown bunnies runnng through the house!
I can’t upload Zippy as the insert image is blank. Will try when I come home from work.
I love that picture of little Hershey all stretched out Kralspace – she is a beauty. To me she is the perfect little woodland creature.
kralspace, is that Hershey’s tail in the 3rd pic? She is a beauty, quite rich colouring. All the Agoutis are, it must be fascinating to watch a shed pattern emerge.
I think she had her tail just laying relaxed down on her back legs. She had only been out of the carrier about a half hour, had checked out the bedroom she and Simba were going to free-roam and properly disapproved of everything. Then she just stretched out like that for a long time. The cats all came to check her out and she never batted an eyelash.
She was a sneaky little girl. I had been up to the NTRS to get hay and they were taking new photos for petfinder. Her mate had recently died so they were taking a new “single, brown female” photo and when I saw her I just had to hold her. She snuggled under my chin and started tooth purring (NONE of mine had ever done that for me) and after a while she started licking my cheek.
Yep, hooked. A few days later I got this postcard from the rescue with the photo. Completely sucked in by a little brown bunny. A couple of weeks later I bundled up my new bachelor, Simba (6 years old and hadn’t seen another rabbit til he came home with me) and we went dating.
Hershey tolerated his single-minded humping until we got home and during the next few days she laid down the law and SHE was alpha rabbit. His henpecking is coming along nicely and they snuggle like 2 old shoes. Displease her, and he’s banished to sleep outside the box for the night.
“Displease her, and he’s banished to sleep outside the box for the night”
hmm…u talkin about your bunnies or me and jared??? ![]()
If a bun did that to me on first meeting, I imagine I would just stand there bawling….![]()
