Something odd has been happening with Edana lately.

I was talking to her then told her that it was time to turn off the light. She sat in a fearful position, wide eyec then started panting as though she was scared. Feeling horrible I told her I would leave the light on. She was fine after that.

One night I turned off the light out of habit. Instantly I heard a thump then running and another thump. I turned the light back on and stayed with her until she calmed down.

I don’t understand. For the whole time she was with us she was fine up until approximately 5 days ago.

We took her to the vet yesterday and he said she was fine. He himself doesn’t understand this sudden change.

I would like to say it’s the weather since it has cooled off a lot. But if it’s that then why is she acting like this all of a sudden? It’s been cool for almost 3 weeks. And wouldn’t Rigel be acting up a certain way as well? He’s as calm as a star in the sky.

        I really don’t understand.

She may have gotten a fright during a previous night which makes her nervous now. It’s hard to say but that could be why. Maybe put a lamp or night light in their area so you don’t have to leave the main light on but they can still have some light.

I wouldn’t say the boys are afraid of the dark, but they seem to enjoy having the light on in the evening when it gets dark outside. So I always turn it on for them until it’s bedtime. Azerane could be right. She could be associating the darkness with something else that happened.

I am so sorry for the late reply! Things have gotten crazy so things have been pushed out of my mind.

Anywho I really appreciate your replies! I leave the television on for them. Not quite ideal though it’s better than the fairy lights I believe.

Could she have been trying to get your attention? My Olly sometimes thumps for attention and runs round for ‘Look at me Mummy.’

Early on in letting my girls free roam, I noticed a LOT of thumps during the night when I turned out all the lights. I don’t think their visual acuity is all that great in the complete dark, but that’s just a guess on my part. I also noticed that they were a lot less active in the dark. I started leaving the light in the stove hood on at night, and the thumping went away, replaced by the sounds of bunny shenanigans. LOTS of bunny shenanigans. Freakin’ long eared hooligans.  I’ve no idea where they got the darn chainsaw.

Maybe I should start leaving the hall light outside the bunny room OFF and Elara will behave herself!! lol
