This is typical when you are fooling with “their” stuff in “their” territory. I would try to do any cleaning if you can when he is out playing.

Next time he lunges at you in the x-pen (not in his cage), say in a firm voice “No” and press his head down to the floor. Don’t do it slowly or hesitantly as he won’t associate it with you being dominant.

Maryann never lunged at me unless I played the ‘wiggle and scratch your fingers on the ground’ game with her. Oh, and the push down thing doesn’t work with her because I didn’t know about it for 5 years – so she made herself the dominant one in our relationship.

I agree with Markus, however, be careful not to get frustrated as you do this, you have to be very calm and firm, but you don’t want to hurt or scare them. Your bunny just sounds quite territorial, some are more territorial than others but as they get used to you it will start to improve. We have a bunny named Henri who grunts at me any time I move his litterbox around, and we have had him for 3 years. He lunges too sometimes, but he never bites or scratches us. It sounds like your bunny is the same way, I still have a great relationship with Henri, I just pet him when he comes to the front of the cage, or when he comes to me and he very much appreciates the pets
