Advice on “nesting”…

After a very noisy night it becomes clear what the noise was about, and as i sit and type this, the bedroom shuffling is very audible.  Weeny Bean’s nesting.  After firstly battling to haul a pillowcase into her little shelter, she’s back and forth from the litter tray with huge mouthfuls of shredded paper and hay.  Brian has been done, but she’s not old enough to be spayed quite yet.  Brian and Bettie couldn’t be without each other for a whole month after his surgery and so life returned to normal, with Brian and Bettie doin the do both head and hind of each other, so we just assumed they were testing each other’s hierarchy skills.  I will obviously keep a close eye on everythin but any advice would be most appreciated.  Is it more likely to be a fake pregnancy?  Or has there been a chance for a little wriggly one to slip through the net?

Oye! Well, the only way she could actually be pregnant is if she was with Brian within a month after his surgery (still viable wrigglies)
or she was somehow exposed to another intact male within the last month. It is not uncommon for an intact female to go through a false pregnancy if she’s mated with a neutered male. So if she is dealing with a false pregnancy then, on average, it can last for about three weeks.

Unfortunately there’s not a whole lot you can do except wait it out. Is she acting more aggressive at all towards you and/or Brian. She may get more territorial as her instincts are telling her to protect her "prized" nesting location. So you may have to watch her interaction with Brian more closely to prevent a fight from breaking out, and causing them to unbond.

EDITED TO ADD:  Oh, I forgot to mention – if she could be possibly pregnant then you will want to make or get a nesting box.  Just a box where the babies can stay safe and warm.  If you think she really could be, let me know, and I’ll continue to give advice for actual pregnancy.

Cheers me dears. I’ve had a sneeky peek insode the box and HOW CUTE…. before we went out she was tuggin huge tufts of fur out of herself, and in her little box is a perfect nest dotted with fur. My baby girl, not such a baby it seems.

Hahaha i’m imagining little Bean hauling a pillowcase around the room – what a cute idea Grace had a bit of a nesting thing going on too – one morning she pranced out of the booda dome with a full section of the newspaper that HAD been lining the bottom of the pan and she didn’t seem to quite know where she was bringing it – but she was very intent on carrying it around the cage! Now that she’s spayed she hasn’t done that any more. She was also very cage protective during this time, I’m sure lil’ Bean is not all that threatening with her lungese, but if she does get a little territorial – I think it will pass!

Oh yes this morning she wanted yesterdays DIRTY shredded paper, i put clean down, but no it was the dirty she wanted. She’s not being protective over the cages, more over the Bumstar, and i think he’s beginning to get a bit fed up with it as as soon as he flakes for his cuddles she comes over honking and nippng at me to remove myself for the Bum. Although just now they both flaked for a head rub accompanied by teeth chattering. lol
