hey guys, I have a few questions and need some advice. so I just moved into a new apartment and my bun (who used to do zoomies everyday) has not gotten used to the new wood floors yet. I don’t have rugs yet so I have put down blankets for him to get around and he seems to like it but I have yet to see him binky (he used to do it on the carpet all the time). so I’m a little worried. I’m wanting to get him a mate and was thinking about getting a cat because I’m intimidated by bonding…should I take him on a few dates at some shelters and just try bonding him to another rabbit? or would he be ok with a car? I know all rabbits are different so it’s hard to say, I just want some advice from experience bonders (with cats or rabbits). I will say that my bun is free range so he only goes to his cage to eat and poop. he has his own set up under my bed with all kinds of things for him that he loves. I’m not opposed to caging him during bonding, I’m just wondering if that will be harder for him since he is never caged. what do y’all think? I get anxiety thinking about bonding him but I know there are tons of other buns that need homes and I’ve heard once they are bonded it is the greatest thing ever for them…

by car I mean cat. he hates riding in the car, much less owning one.

Some rabbits and cats get along but I wouldn’t get one expecting that your bunny will bond with it as they would another rabbit. If you have a rescue or shelter nearby that does bunny dating I might try that route. It gives you the best chance of success and a higher probability of an easier bond. You can even talk to them about a foster to adopt type situation. This would allow you to find a rabbit via dating and try out bonding before committing to being a forever home.

I also don’t think cats and rabbits should be left alone together without supervision. If you go the cat/bunny route I would suggest having a way to securely separate them when you are not around/home.

If you’re wanting a companion for your rabbit then I think another rabbit is the way to go. If you want a cat there’s nothing wrong with that and it can work. I would just make sure your expectations are realistic when it comes to bunny/cat relations.

Or you could just get him a car AND some friends
