        Hi All,

We’ve just placed an order for a couple of x-pens to link together to give our baby bunny Tig some extra space to run around during the day while we’re working.  These won’t be permanent, we’ll set these up when we start work in the morning and take them down when we’re done for the day (we are both working from home, in the same space, so why not give her some unused space to run around!).

The only “issue” is that we would need to set her space up in our living room, on our niceish area rug.  I’m less concerned about accidents, but more with her ripping our existing rug apart.  I’ve been looking for something to lay on top of our rug that is safe (in case she eats it) and also will be comfortable for her to run around on.  Keep in mind we will be home when this is set up and she will semi-supervised.

        What have other folks done?

        Would something like this work?

I found a few older threads about seagrass mats from cost plus but can’t seem to find anything similar that’s reasonably priced.

        Thanks!

        Justin

You could try a couple of layers of cardboard. I have been able to get really large boxes from my local appliance store for free, you could see if one near you is willing to let you take a few off their hands.

I would go for a few layers for sure if your bun is one to chew and dig though, just to make sure they don’t get through to the rug too quickly.

I have also used vinyl/linoleum scrap pieces to protect flooring and make for easier cleanup but it isn’t safe for them to eat if you think they’d dig it up.

I’ve been using a plastic shower curtain from the dollar store on top of dollar store memory foam mats. Then I put dollar store blankets on top. Lol! It works to keep the floor dry. A thick tarp works too. You just need to make sure you tuck it under the mats so it won’t get chewed. Even when my bunnies get to it sometimes, they don’t eat it.

I do want a linoleum floor for them eventually for easier clean up! But my bunny Pinky has mostly stopped peeing outside of the box for now. Just some ideas.

Thanks all!  Fortunately our bunny has not taken much interest in the rug (yet) so we haven’t had to put anything down!  She has had some “accidents” but only on the hard wood floor or in the bed we got her.

I would use puzzle play mats. These are waterproof and if you place it to were there are no exposed edges it is very unlikely that she will chew on it. Also a great place to get sea grass mats are from 101rabbits.
