Hi, i’m Getting 3 lionhead bunnies and i’m Planning on putting this in the garage: ENCLOSURE

I’m thinking of putting rugs on the floor and having a hutch inside for the bunnies to sleep in.

Do you think this will be ok? We have a window in our garage and I can let them out to play on the garden every day for a couple of hours.

        Welcome your advice.

Initially it looked very large, but I realize it just seemed that way because the walls are very high. I don’t think that’s adequate space for three rabbits, especially if you add a hutch inside to take up more space. Your post also made me think of a few other things:

          1) Garages are not the best environment. They usually get very cold and hot during the seasons, and generally this isolates your pet from the rest of your home, naturally leading to a less bonded relationship with them at times.

          2) If you’re getting three, you need them to be all fixed (spayed/neutered) and bonded. Unless you’ve found three that are advertised as such (not they’re all siblings or have been together since birth; this is not being bonded.), then you will need to have them all separated until they’re fixed and you will need to go through the bonding process with them, which can take months while they’re housed separately.

          3) It’s much more safe and preferred for them to be free roam indoors, rather than a garden where they are open to predators, parasites, and bugs. Whole outdoors, they would need constant supervision, and I don’t think any owner has time to do that every day. Three rabbits need to be free roam for several hours a day, so the best way to accommodate that is rabbit proof indoors and let them free roam, or use a very large x pen indoors.

Yeah I agree with Wick, I am pro indoor free range rabbits. The cage is pretty small for 3 and is they are not fixed then they will fight. Is there anyway they can live inside?

That’s pretty small tbh. 9ft x6ft = 54sq ft. I believe the bare minimum for ONE rabbit is 36sq ft. So you’d need a much, much bigger enclosure for 3 rabbits. And of course sticking a hutch in there cuts down the space even more.

Why do you want them in the garage anyway? I mean, it’s better than having them in the garden but rabbits should be kept inside the house with the family…

                  Welcome to the forum!

That’s a bit tall looking to me and it seems pretty unusual to have that as a cage for rabbits. And putting a hutch in there doesn’t really make sense. Hutches and the enclosure you showed are expensive and are honestly pretty unnecessary. Many people can’t exactly have their rabbits free roamed during the day, so they have to put them in an enclosure. I recommend using dog x pens. They are very affordable, and provide a ton of space for your rabbit. Since you have 3 rabbits, maybe try buying 2 or 3 x pens and connect them together to make a huge space. If you decide for this option, make sure the x pens are at least 36 inches high cause rabbits can jump. Even if you do get them a large enclosure, you still have to let them out to socialize with you. Especially if you want to bond with them! Also make sure their all spayed/neutered before you bond them. If I were u, I’d buy 3 x pens (since you have 3 buns) and put 1 rabbit in each pen until they recover from there spay/neuter. You should also take pre/stress bonding classes at your local shelter. You can’t just bond 3 rabbits without knowing how to. That’s insane lol!

Is your garage air conditioned? You wanna make sure your buns won’t overheat or freeze depending on the weather conditions where you live. If your garage is air conditioned, then yes, you can have the 3 x pens in there, but if not, keep them in your house. Again, still let them out to socialize. At least 4 hours minimum. Having a rabbit doesn’t mean you can leave it a cage all day. They’re definitely not that kind of pet.

Hope this helped Keep us posted on what you decide for.
