I just adopted a bunny who is about 2 years old.  He’s been doing really well but I’ll be sitting on the floor with him and he’ll come and dig at my arm and I was wondering if someone could tell me what that was about?  He also licks my hands and face, is that normal?  One thing he does that worries me a little bit is that he starts sniffing me and then he’ll kind of nibble on me.  It doesn’t hurt but is he trying to be aggresive or is that okay?  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi there And welcome! Thank you for adopting a bunny.

That behavior – digging in your arm is normal. Rabbits love to dig.. a flannel blanket would be a nice toy Just be sure he doesn’t ingest it.. hehe. Some rabbits will dig and ‘make the bed’ on a blanket. It is quite amusing

Licking means.. ultimate trust. It means that he loves you and that he is very friendly. He is grooming you. My bunny kisses my face all of the time.

First of all, thank you for adopting a bunny in need of a home!! And welcome to the forums .

All his behaviors sound normal…it’s actually really great that he licks you! In bunny language, licking (grooming) means that they accept and like you – it’s a sign of affection . You should be glad your bunny has warmed up to you so much already! I adopted an adult bunny too about 3 weeks ago, and I’m still trying to get the little guy to groom me! Stubborn little bun…

When a bunny is aggressively trying to bite you, you’ll definitely know it..nibbles aren’t aggressive. Sometimes they might nibble a bit as part of their grooming; bunnies do this to each other. It can also be a way of getting attention too. The digging is just sort of playful behavior – just move out of the way if it’s uncomfortable.

No problem! You can look up bunny binkies on youtube to get an idea of what to watch for. They look so happy and silly! My Peppy and Milo were both adopted as well..I tell them all the time that I don’t know what kind of person in their right mind would get rid of such great bunnies like them .

My Gabby was just given to me free because the previous owner’s daughter tired of her. They left her in a too small cage in their garage all winter. She has no cage now and binkies all over the living room. It’s amazing to see. She really gets air sometimes. Then she has to rest and then do it all over again. I’m still waiting on Gabby to groom me. She will do it to my daughter but not me yet.
