I want to add an x-pen to Zeus’s cage, I think I can make an albeit smaller but still helpful xpen attached to his cage (I’m in a studio so there’s not much free space for a really big x-pen).  Anyways, my biggest concern is his cage is on carpet, and even though he barely ever has pee accidents, I don’t want him to pee on the carpet.  My complex is VERY particular about keeping the carpets clean and I don’t want to pay a HUGE fee due to a pee stain on the carpet!

I worry with linoleum, since the floor under it won’t be PERFECTLY flat from the carpet, that the pee would just trickle off to one side and end up spilling onto the carpet.  I was thinking of maybe putting a rug down ontop of the carpet where the x-pen will be, that way if he pees I can simply wash the little rug.  Will the pee soak through the rug though?  I’m not sure!

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

you could get like a big puppy pad and put a sheet or a rug on top of it.

I have on top of my carpet – linoleum and then a carpet (I get the large area carpet from Walmart – it’s 5 x 7 and it’s only $19.99 so I don’t feel so bad changing out that carpet on top of the linoleum when it gets yucky). I don’t find the pee pads to be very effective.

Home Depot has some really cheap 5′ x 7′ rugs (only $19.99!) in assorted colors. They’re not too fluffy either so buns can’t chew them as much. ;D

I do need to check those out at Home Depot too since I really hate shopping at Walmart. The rugs are the only thing I purchase there and they are very low pile too – almost like an indoor/outdoor but if I could find them at Home Depot for the same price I’d go there.

We have a large 8×10 rug that we cut down to accommodate our 4×8 xpen setup. It sits right on top of the carpet and protects the flooring underneath. It works well and can be easily vacuumed for cleanup. If you’re still concerned, a piece of plastic or a tarp under the rug would provide an added layer of protection.
