Well, as some of you know, I have 4 buns:
A bonded altered pair – 3 yr old female, with me from baby - 6 or 7 yr old male with 2 years. Both 3.5 pound lops.
A 3 year old neutered rex, adopted in April 2009, about 5/6 pounds.
A 3 yr old, not spayed yet lop, adopted in May 2009, about 5/6 pounds.
As previously discussed here ( see bonding 4 buns thread), I decided to try the 3 fixed ones 1st who have been living in the same room since May but, didn’t really meet until today. I have been putting it off because of my fears after reading so many horror stories. LOL I think, I must have the best buns in the world. LOL Don’t we all think that.
The 3 were outside for grooming & nail trimming as everyone is suddenly in blow your coat mode this week. LOL The pair together & the other alone. When I came back in I thought, “OK, everyone is already out of their cages & has just had a going over for lumps etc. I’m going to jump in & try putting them on the couch together.” Not exactly neuteral territory as everyone gets cuddles there (separately) & it is in the same room as the enormous cages.
I immediately had a mini lick fest going on, then they wondered around the couch for a minute separately climbing over each other. Then came back to sniff one another, & actually all layed down together for a almost a minute. After about 4 minutes of alternately sniffing, grooming, & cuddling each other, Bugsy decided she had better hump the new fellow, to say who’s boss, then her partner – just because LOL, then the new fellow again, LOL I of course picked her up & she definately did not have a hard grip with her teeth. She humped her partner for the 1st month or so but soon stopped & there was never a fight or any trouble getting them together. Maybe I’m going to be luck again – fingers & toes crossed. I separated them on a good note too, after they had groomed each other & moved away on their own.
I’m so happy this went well. I’ll be much more confident this evening or tomorrow when I try again. I didn’t want to risk holding the camera this time, in case a war broke out. LOL Yes, I know I still have to be very carefull.
