I need some ideas guys…I had a thread in this same sub-forum, and found out Sunny’s just a lounger. Even though, I KNOW she’s more active than what she’s being. She’s not showing any signs of illness or injury, I just think she’s bored! I need some ideas to get her up and running around, and having fun. Does anyone have any ideas of types of toys I could buy her? There’s a smaller room next to mine, and I plan on getting a fencing like thing to block the way down to the steps, and keep my door shut. I would like for this to just be her own activity room-and just put her up during the night. Any creative ideas to make this room active for her?

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.

You can set up tunnels a boxes for her to investigate and jump onto. After she’s sussed it out she may just choose to sleep in one of the boxes though – lol. Normal. You can then change it all around and she mmight go investigating again. If you want structured activity – maybe look into clicker training.

Toys…hmmmmm.  Bean likes to rip up phone books and chew on cardboard tubes (from paper towels and toilet paper).  Boxes are always fun since they can jump in and out or, if you cut holes in them, run through them and they’re always good for a nibble.  He really likes the cardboard “Cottontail Cottage” I ordered from the Binky Bunny store.  His consistent favorite has to be cardboard in any form.  I’ve got willow balls and they’re fun to nibble on, but they don’t last long.  The only other toy I’ve bought is a sisal ball with a bell inside.  He only touches it if he’s mad at us and then it’s “SLAM!! jingle-jingle SLAM!!! jingle-jingle”.    Not much entertainment otherwise.    Towels or blankets are fun, too.  They can be dug on and dragged around.

I have to ditto the cardboard boxes, my bunnies don’t love any of their toys as much as they love the cardboard boxes they are shipped in! Also, they really love seagrass mats, they rip them up and chew on them all day long. Don’t be too concerned that your bunny is a lounger, my bunnies really only are very active for a little bit in the morning, and a little bit at night. When I let them out they will usually run around the cage for a few laps, and then settle down. Then the rest of the night is just casual hopping around, or chewing on their boxes and mats.

Everyone has great suggestions – cardboard is a huge favorite at my house and my bun loves his Maze Haven!

Clicker training is fun too. It gets my bun off of his butt for a few minutes and keeps his mind active. http://www.clickerbunny.com is a good site to get started if you’re interested.

Phone books are a good idea I also use those construction tubes they poor cement into as forms. You can get them in different lengths and diameters – make sure it’s tall enough for you bunny to be able to hop through. I have dwarfs so they fit about anywhere. An large empty box with 2 holes for doorways on opposite sides should be good fun too.

Something else I thought of: move existing things around, take some away, and add some new things. Otto never ever played with his phone book in his pen, but I brought it out into the living room the other day and pretended to read it. Within seconds he was in my way trying to figure out what was so interesting about this phone book. Now he chews and digs in it. Haha. When you change things up, it seems like all new stuff to your bunny, even if he’s seen it all before. 😉

Another thing my bun likes is to play in towels. He won’t do it on his own, but he loves if I throw a towel over him. He’ll burrow his way out, but as soon as he gets his head out he’ll turn around and burrow back in.
