Hi..bun bun is a 2month+ netherland dwarf boy..

2 times (on diff days) i put him with me on the sofa (black colour in specific)..2 times he try to jump down from the sofa (which i think he will get injured if i din grasp him on time). he does not behave like this on table at the same height. the recent time on the sofa..he even try to charge/climb up the back of the sofa..

one more thing..when i place my bunny against my chest (his tummy pressed on my chest) he will wan to charge upwards after 1minute or 2..i dun see this on other bunnies (they just slowly move or reach upwards rather than charging). is he too active or?

He probably does not like that sort of height, on you or on the sofa. Even if the sofa is the same height as the table, he sees both you and the sofa as climbable objects to potentially escape.

Don’t put him against your chest or on the sofa unless you have to. He’s still young, so give him time to explore rather than putting him in hose situations.

My bunnies will still sit in any hay box I give them. It’s the bunny way I’m afraid!

Do you feed him hay as well as pellets?

You could potentially lift him out of the bowl each time and put the pellets in after, that way he tries to learn that he doesn’t need to be in the bowl to get food. After he gets a sense of food security, he may get more calm around pellet-feeding time. Food security is when an animal knows that their food source is consistent, so they are less paranoid about eating it all at once and rushing towards it.

@Sirius&Luna – yup pellets n alfalfa n timothy..but he always fling/sweep the alfalfa stem out of the food bowl tho..sigh..
@ Wick – yup..i did lift him off or nudge him when he hop onto the food bowl..
i’ve been consistence..till i find out he end up eating onli the pellets n alfalfa leaves..soo now i refused to top up till he finishes his hay..
is there a better way to teach him a better eating habits?..

You might need to cut down on the pellets and alfalfa a bit to get him to eat more timothy hay. Alfalfa is good for growing buns, but when he’s 5-6 months you’ll need to totally wean him off it, so it’s good to get him eating other hay young. Perhaps you could leave him with just timothy hay for most the day, and give him a portion of pellets in the morning, and a handful of alfalfa in the evening. When people say young buns should have ‘unlimited’ pellets, they don’t truly mean unlimited – for a growing nethie, 1/4 a cup is probably about right.

hihi..yup..i gave him abt 1.5 tablespoon of pellets (half in the morning..half at night) ..

oh..i tot unlimited alfalfa..soo i gave him abt 2 handful (finger grab) morning n 2 at night..seems like im still feeding him too well.. (i brought him back to the seller for grooming 1 wk after i bought him..the seller say his quite well fed..ask me to take note..)

when his onli option is to eat the timothy..he normally make a mess..the hay will be all over the cage

Thanks soo much for the advise!

Apple sticks should be fine, just don’t give him loads at once He’ll probablly only give them a nibble anyway. Willow twigs are another good option.
