Hello, My bunny was acting fine before the meds just a little itchy. Instantly after I put it on she starting shaking her head (which I assumed would happen cause there’s a wet spot on her neck). But then she started running from me and licking herself everywhere. Then she wouldn’t eat the treat I offered her. Now she’s just laying down looking tired and not reaping to me as much. I’m a bit scared from her reaction. What should I do? Does she just need to rest?

What flea treatment did you use?

If by any chance you used any compound contsining fipronil (Frontline, Sentry, Effipro and other brand names) it is a veterinary emergency and you must contact a vet immediately. Fipronil can be deadly toxic to rabbits. (Hopefully you haven’t used fipronil, I’m just writing this in case you have).

Oh, I’m glad! Then she should be fine, severe side effects are rare. Is she still refusing a treat?

Yes most of them, she ate 2 rose petals. But she’s still not AS responsive as usual. I usually put my hand down next to her and she will put her head in that direction. She’s not doing that. She gets up, either scratches herself or digs (she digs when she’s mad), then lays back down with those half shut eyes (they usually get when they are sleeping).

If she takes treats and is active, I think she’ll be ok. Advantage is considered very safe for rabbit, but it can cause itching esp around the site of application. This can of course be frustrating for the rabbit since she cant reach to scratch the application site if its at the nape of the neck/between the shoulderblades. That could be why she’s digging. Hopefully any irritation will subside soon.

Obviously contact your vet if you see something like drooling or lethargy and/or loss of all interest in food.
