Yet more problems with my babies. The bonded pair are snuffling like crazy with fairly regular sneezing and snorting. The little dwarf has a slightly damp nose, the other doesn’t. Frosty is fine and lives on his own anyway. I hasten to add they do have an appointment with the vet on Friday, when I’m not working. I guess they do feel poorly because they are a little moodier then normal. Does anyone else get these problems?? They live at a comfortable room temerature, in a very clean cage, no sawdust, only their litter tray which has never affected them before. My absolute nightmare would be pausturella. I’ll push for a swab test. Can  this be cured? I’ve looked at some HORRIBLE websites on this condition recently which has made me quite scared. Any experience from anyone??

Buns can be sneezers however if there is any discharge during the sneezing, then yes, you should bring them to the vet. The fact that both the buns living together are doing it makes me think that it is probably a cold.

I also had two foster babies with the sneezes – and the vet put them on Baytril for a few days, and they recovered, but it took awhile. The worst part was that at one point they started getting really sick, and were sneezing for 30 sec. – a minute at a time and it was clearly hard for them to breathe. I did three things to help them breathe easier, one was I got a wash cloth and ran it under hot water so that it was steaming a bit, then I held the baby, and held the washcloth in front of (but not directly ON) her nose so that she could inhale some of the steam. Also, I used a Q-tip in warm water to help wash a bit of the gunk off her nose, and thirdly, I used one of those baby things that is used to suck mucuous out of a baby’s nose (I can’t remember what its called but I found it in the baby aisle). When they were at their sickest point and having trouble breathing I did let them sleep in a cage in my bedroom for about 3 days so if they had the sneezing fits that they couldn’t stop I would have to wake up and try to help them breathe in some steam from a hot washcloth, or wipe the mucuous off their noses so they could breathe. I lost a bit of sleep there – but really it helped them a lot and they felt much better after about 1 week.

yes – it is a good idea to get them checked by the vet so I am glad you have the appointment scheduled. generally the sooner you catch it the better, since pasturella can be quite resistant to meds.

this article might be helpful and isn’t terribly scary to read: http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/articles/past.shtml
