We accidentally discovered how to get Freya to eat more hay. Since she hated that stupid corner litterbox we used it for her hay in her condo up on her third level. Earlier this week she had a temper tantrum, fortunately I was watching when this happened because it was hilariouis. It was about 3 or 4 in the morning and she was just eating hay in her corner. Her condo is behind my desk so I was kind of watching her while doing whatever it is I do at that time of day. She suddenly just grabbed the edge of the box and pulled it off the sides of her condo (it has little hooks that keep it from sliding around) and dumped it upside down on herself before flinging it off the edge. She promptly jumped down and knocked it all the way down to the bottom of her condo.

So, I decided that if that’s the way she’s gonna be the brat can just eat hay off her floor. I am not going to put the stupid box back over and over again. I think she’s about doubled her hay intake since then. Her hay is just scattered over about a 2 foot square area on the top of her condo. I suppose that when we start limiting her pellets we can just scatter them under her hay. I’m sneaky like that. I’m just happy because I’ve always been paranoid that she doesn’t eat enough hay even though she’s happy and healthy.

          That’s a very funny image.
It looks like you got the message (Mom, I HATE this thing!!!) and fixed it.
          Well done!

Haha, I got the message all right. I still feel horrible because she’s eating off of her floor.

Don’t feel horrible about that! It’s perfectly natural for them to graze on the ground for food. (What’s “unnatural” is putting food in a small bowl and expecting them to eat daintily out of it! LOL!) If it works for you and Freya, do it!

This is something I’ve also discovered about both Mimzy and Pip. If the hay is not on the floor (preferably right under their noses so they don’t even have to get up) they will not eat it. Occasionally Mimzy will eat hay in his litterbox, but that’s about the only other place he’ll dine.
I find it funny that Freya and Mimzy are the exact same kind of bunny and they basically taught us the same way how to serve hay.
Fiver is okay with it on the floor or in his basket, but either way it must be plentiful or he’ll just start chewing on the side of his litterbox.
We had the opportunity to get a choice shot of Pip COVERED in hay while she had a tuft sticking out of the side of her mouth, but it was late and I didn’t feel like going to get the camera. She looked like the creature of the black lagoon who’d just risen from the depths with all the weeds covering him. She was just looking at us like, “What? Don’t you wear your food before you eat it?”

Haha, that’s too funny. Freya never lets me take pictures of her, the second I pick up a camera she’s hiding. One night I sat taking video of her for an hour straight and she did NOTHING cute at all. The minute I put the camera away she was zooming and binkying all over the room. I’m noticing the less hay Freya has the better. If she thinks she’s going to run out of hay she eats it nonstop as if to tell say “HEY!!! almost out here, more plox!” If she has lots she mostly ignores it if I’m in the room.

My buns refuse to eat out of bowls…if I put their pellets in there, they knock it over so they can eat them off of the floor. If I put their veggies in there, they just drag them out. I gave up on food bowls a while ago!

your rabbits are hilarious.  Love it.

I finally got Cotton to eat more hay too.   I checked the HRS chart and realized I was feeding him way too many pellets.  So I cut down gradually.   He now munches away on hay

Sometime Cotton digs at the top of the hay to get to the hay on the bottom he likes more.   Thats when I put 2  different hays in for him.  Both of them even ate at their timmy mint hay

Oh no an embarrassing moment at the library.  My cell phone just went off.  I took it out my purse and sat on it.  lol
