My 1 year old bunny, Nico, has recently been in contact with a male. My friend gave me her rabbit and I thought they were the same gender until I realized I gendered Nico wrong and she is actually a female. I didn’t notice this until after they were having sex but I kept pulling them off of each other cause I thought they were just asserting dominance at first. So I left him in my room with Nico almost the whole day and at the last minute I doubled checked their genders and he is a male and Nico is a female. How likely is it that Nico is pregnant? She is an indoor, free roamed rabbit and I wouldn’t care if she was pregnant but I just need to know if I should start preparing at least. It has only been a week and a half since they mated but I’m kinda wanting to know right away cause I’m inpatient 😂. But if anyone knows the possibility please let me know, Thanks 🙏🏻

If they were together a whole day and both rabbits are sexuellt mature and intact, Id say the risk that your bun is pregnant is very high. Rabbits are induced ovulators, meaning they ovulate when they have a sexual encounter.

Here is good info from the British rabbit wellfare society:

Might be early enough to do an emergency spay. Are you planning to get her spayed? I assume you’ve separated them at this point?

Thanks, I’ll be on the look out for these signs. I assume that as soon as she gives birth I should start setting an appointment to get her spayed at the vet? And I already have a nesting box for her and already have plans for their homes. I think I’m prepared but I’m sure I’m forgetting something 🤔

Been there, done that and it wasn’t even my rabbit!  But my sis and kids got to enjoy the litter and found them good homes.

You might consider getting them altered before placement?  Perhaps a shelter or rabbit rescue friendly vet would get you a good price.

You could get your male neutered ASAP, and then get her spayed once she’s done nursing?

If they haven’t all been placed in homes yet, plan to separate all babies from each other at 12 weeks. It’s very hard to properly sex young rabbits (as you’ve found out!), and they can become sexually mature at 12 weeks, so you definitely want to avoid another accidental pregnancy!
