Okay, so I saw this thread on another forum (it’s a non-bunny forum, don’t get jealous now) and it’s gonna be really fun, okay?! ![]()
So we’re all gonna read this this paragraph (it totally bonkers but whatever) and we’ll hear everyone’s accents!
I’ve tried to put lots of accent-provoking words (if you know what I mean) in it.
Make a recording (audio is fine) of your voice, speaking in a narrating tone reading the following paragraph.
Right on schedule, the bunny slave left the house at 4 o’clock. As soon as she left, the Binky Bunnies mobilised! They were on a mission to get the basil from the kitchen while she was out! They took the usual route to the kitchen, through the garage, but when they arrived they were devastated to discover the basil was wrapped up in aluminium foil! Luckily, Fluffers had seen an advertisement for the foil brand and knew that it could be ripped open with their teeth. Fluffers and Flopsy tore apart the foil and ate up the delicious vitamin-packed herb!
Try not to deviate from this too much so we can really see all the differences in accents! ![]()
Here’s mine!
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0Z10KrpHEPU
(I recommend using that site to record and share, you don’t have to make an account or anything) ![]()
I couldn’t make it work when I tried to make a recording myself, but listening to you was delightful =)
You sound like I imagined you would =)
Oh my, we pronounce things very differently!
I pronounce Basil BAY-Zill.
It should be easy to record, you might have to click something to allow the website permission to your microphone. ![]()
I’ll try it later when my sister goes upstairs. She’s watching TV very loudly right now.![]()
![]()
Tessie — I LOVE your accent!! Yours is a bit different from hers, but it just took me back to my childhood when I would listen to Julia Child’s cooking show. I didn’t care what she was making but lived to listen to the English accent!
This will be cool!
Lots of differences from the way we talk here! I’ll do mine as soon as I can get away with it.
I recorded myself and I sound horrible lol! I’m getting over a head cold and I sound very young on there. And I was trying to read aloud and it was just horrible lol.
I don’t think I want to post it. ![]()
There doesn’t seem to be anywhere to press play to hear your recording Tessie. Is it just me?
Aww, come on Moxie!
Do it!
I could listen to you talk forever Tessie! I don’t think I have a microphone on my computer? Maybe I can try my phone…
That worked really slick from my phone! I recorded it using the voice recorder on my phone and then uploaded to the site. cool!
Why can’t I get the site to work? Hmm, could it be flash? I have flash blocker, but there is no F symbol to click on.
Tessie you sound like Rebel Wilson!
Tessie you sound like Rebel Wilson!
This is a great idea! I have a cold right now, so I can do it in a few days time-I reckon I sound like a mix of LLH and Tessie?
What will my hubby think when he hears me reading this? He already knows I’m bonkers! ![]()
LEL Get well soon!
(I know how you feel though, me and quite a few family members are sick right now!)
LLH Nope. No accent.
MM You are young!!! My voice is awful, but I may try it anyway.
Tessie: I couldn’t even understand the last couple of words on yours. Wow! But I just love British accents (as opposed to me not having an accent ha ha)
Thanks to everyone who likes my accent!
Can we please get some more of you recording on here? Join in!
LLH – How can you say you don’t have an accent?! You sound so… American
loads of the words we say completely differently.
Emm – Who is Rebel Wilson?
Moxie – Come on, don’t be like that!
LEL-I said to hubby “Don’t make any noise and don’t make fun of me” then started reading. He didn’t ask any questions and I’m assuming he figured it was for BB! lol

Awww, what a good husband! ![]()
LLH, I agree, I don’t think you have much, if any, of an accent. Though, I don’t think I do either!
http://vocaroo.com/i/s07y4ZgZ3eYc
Thank you Moxie!
What a good hubby LLH.![]()
I couldn’t listen to LLH — I just see a puzzle piece that says “not supported”.
Manic is right — she has no accent at all. Sounds completely normal to me!
Just reading the story, I knew right away a couple words I’d probably pronounce similar to you Tessie. Due to our English ancestors!
I’ve seen that accent tag thing on YouTube but I much prefer reading a story then a list of words.
Ok, hope this works. I couldn’t use the vocaroo site on my phone so I’ve done a voice only video. :p
Little sound effect at the end.
Edit: ok didn’t work. Might come up as a cut & paste link- sorry!
http://vid392.photobucket.com/albums/pp1/dohraime/Mobile%20Uploads/trim.C6F7742C-5970-46F7-8254-B516088114AD_zpsgv4nonkr.mp4
Jersey — I’m just seeing the same as LLH “plugin not supported”.
Will have to get on the laptop later.
OK AH, you HAVE to do this! And please make sure to say “bugga” at the end! I have to hear that!
Wow! Such a difference between Tessie and MM. To be expect I guess! lol
LLH’s link doesn’t open for me either JR. : (
Lol@Emm. I thought it was funny you compare Tessie to Rebel! Tessie, Rebel Wilson is an Aussie comedian/actress.
It’s funny because from some of those “accent tag” videos I’ve seen, some Aussies are often asked if they’re British when they’re in the States. I don’t hear similarities in those two accents at all! Not overall, just in some words and how they’re pronounced.
JR, I tried embed the video first but I’ve edited to give direct link now. That doesn’t work either?
Jersey — now I can copy and paste a link but get the message on my phone “this video cannot be played or is currupt”
MM…a bit of southern twang???
Jersey…love your accent too. Nice sound effect!!
Honestly you guys!
No one on the other forum had this much trouble ![]()
If you do it on your computers (not a phone or tablet) I think it would solve a lot of problems!
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1AyeTTl2l9h
Sound quality is awful, and I’m reading it in my dramatic read to little children at story time style, not my normal speech. I think I’ve read to little kids to much to be able to read anything out loud without slipping into story time style.
I haven’t listened to others yet, b/c I’m a bit of a natural mimic and didn’t want to be influenced.

Everyone has an accent. Where are you from?

LLH, I agree, I don’t think you have much, if any, of an accent. Though, I don’t think I do either!![]()
According to my 9yo son, you have a cowboy accent.
Eepster’s sounds normal to me too! Eep, you’d be great at reading stories to kids!

MM…a bit of southern twang???Jersey…love your accent too. Nice sound effect!!
MM sounds midwest to me, which in the states is the standard for newscasters. So we often think of it as unaccented, but of course it’s really just the accent that is least localized.
Here in NJ, accents are super localized. I grew up in Bergen county, and have a different accent from a friend of mine who grew up in Hudson county.
Thinking of one of the most obvious differences between how my friend and I talk, reminds me that reading from a script will hide some accent markers. My friend says “yous” but I say “you guys.” Stuff like that gets lost when reading what someone else wrote.
In the passage above if I hadn’t been reading from a script, I would have said “ad” instead of “advertisement.”
JG Your accent could lull me right to sleep…until the sound effects at the end. I couldn’t stop laughing!!!!!!!! Beautiful voice!
Manic: Oh, you definitely have an accent Southern for sure! Love it!!
Here’s mine. I wish I could get it as conveniently as LLH’s but maybe that’s cuz you did it on your phone?? My phone (iPhone 6!!!) wouldn’t do it, stupid thing!
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0IrHrDaNU8y
Eepster you have a good “kid reading” voice! I am from the mid-west in general but have lived in Minnesota for over 10 years. People say us Minnesotans have an accent, but I notice it most the further north in MN you go! The Cowboy Comment is too funny. My step-dad is a total cowboy
Mega you sound “normal” to me..I was expecting a southern drawl but I can’t remember if you are from the south or just live there now? And I think mine posted like that since I did it on my phone. It certainly wasn’t anything special this non-techy person did!! haha
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0XTfXelMcHF
LOL Tessie! How do you come up with these fun idea’s???
TESSIE! You DO sound just like Rebel Wilson – so cool!
You sound just like I remembered manic, LOVE IT! And same MB – so ‘American’, ha ha ha!
Lol Eepster, you reminded me of Mary Poppins, he he he……
And Jersey sounds perfectly normal to me
!
Come on everyone else, I am desperate to hear your voices!!!
Ummm, LLH – I can’t hear yours? It took me to the recorder???
AH – you read fast! You sound a little like Tessie!
Megabunny – you sound normal to me! The only place I heard any NY was in “garage”!
Megabunny — I bet if you ate a little grits you’d be saying things like “y’all” and could even pick up a southern drawl!
LOL JR – I always get accused of taking to fast (and I thought I slowed down? Especially considering I didn’t think to read through it before recording it, ha ha ha!). And I often get accused of sounding like a Kiwi (New Zealander) Lol! Your TURN JR! I am waiting……
And Moxie, I have to hear your voice!
BAM!!! You HAVE to do the recording – I have often wondered how you sound???
AH — My sister talks really fast so I jyst have to listen faster! Its been a long time since I’ve heard my voice recorded, but my mother even thought the first 8 to 10 words of Manic’s was actually me! I’m going to give it a try later. My allergies are horrible right now with everything starting to bloom and I’m so stuffed up and coughing. BTW, heard the “bugga”!!!
Andi, I died laughing at the “bugga” at the end!!! Hahaha and you guys (Tessie, Jersey, AH) say Aluminum funny!!!!
MB sound like she’s from Long Island to me. I’m surprised she has so little southern drawl. My cousin moved down to NC from NJ and picked up a drawl quite fast.

My son Denny came over to give everyone a haircut and gave it go for you all, ha ha ha……
Hahaha! I love the way you all talk! And thank Denny for the bugga!
Ok, will give it a go. I’m a bit breathy and congested with allergies. Wish I could hear my accent as others do. Not sure if I sound like a bogan or a high brow.
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1DDOHASbRMN
You sound prim and proper Roberta – not one ounce of bogan, LOL!
Beautiful voice Roberta! You have less of an accent than others!
What’s bogan and high brow??
I could listen to you Aussie’s talk all day long! Our “normal” is so boring compared to your accents!
I’ll let Roberta describe ‘bogan’ and ‘high brow’ (LOL!) – she is so good at explaining Aussie stuff……..
I still can’t hear yours Justina – sad face!
When your ready JR, come on over – you can listen to me talk all day and night (I’m sure I never shut up!), ha ha ha ha!
PS – We DON’T have accents – YOU’S DO!!!
The high brows come from the wealthy areas. In Sydney that would be Vaucluse and other Northern suburbs. Mostly from homes with tennis courts, 4 car garages, separate guest houses and indoor heated olympic sized swimming pools. Bogan is the classic mullet cut, most likely living in a 3×1 fibreboard dwelling with a V8 commodore parked on the lawn because there’s a couch and bbq under the single car carport next to the beer fridge. Have probably never used a tennis raquet for anything other than air guitar and track pants and thongs are considered suitable dress for all occasions, black thongs and tshirt for formal events.
“You’s”????!!!!! That’s a New Jersey/New York thing!
Perfectly described/explained Roberta!!! Ha ha ha ha……
You’s – is it? I thought it was just us Aussie’s being lazy slang word??? If we can shorten a word, we do! LOL!
Anothervway to tell a bogan from a HB is an HB will call themselves Orstralian whilst a Bogan will pronounce it ‘Strayan. If any one has heard our PM speak ( or blather which is closer to the mark) you can just catch the hint of cashed up private school bogan.
Oh yes! In Straya, you can be wealthy and still be a bogan! We don’t discriminate here!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha……..
PS – You forgot the bogan’s Winter attire Roberta….. the flanno! LOL!
You mean the bogan tuxedo Andi.
LOL! I know Roberta – I was getting a bit ‘fancy’ there….. Ha ha ha!
But everyone has to keep warm in Winter, he he he.
Just putting this out there – ‘LBJ & Amanda’???
So Bogan is our version of a Red Neck or a Hick
haha nice!
Hmm…Andi, I’ll try to upload it in a different way.
Does this work?
It was all fancy before b/c I picked the “embed” option like I would for a picture!
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0tL47uWkTom
It worked! Thank you Justina! LOL…. you sound just like MB, ha ha ha! Though MB has a bit more twang (is that the word??? Lol!) to her voice.
Gosh! I love this thread so much – thanks again Tessie!
PS – Soooo….. we have ‘bogans’ world wide??? Ha ha ha ha ha ha…….
PPS – I can’t wait to hear if JR sounds like manic? Fun fun!
So far all the Americans sound the same to me! Is that fair or is that just my untrained ear?
Andi you sound very Australian and you talk SO fast!
Roberta your voice sounds really different, it sounds more ‘posh’ somehow… what accent is that?
Originally Western Suburbs of Sydney, Australia. Middle working class. Though I have been told my pitch and cadence is unusual. All the women in my family have deep voices (alto). It could be the military training, your voice is important as you need to be heard and understood in extreme conditions. Little voices don’t do well directing a drill squad on a parade ground.
LOL. I remember many years ago I was scolding Luna (tic) my little black cat (aka Osama Bin Kitten) Luna was being a fiend and I used a toned down version of my parade ground voice. You need to project and command without yelling yourself hoarse. To me if was a stern voice, apparently they could here me 3 houses down. In all fairness Luna was hanging from the flyscreens with her tail lashing and head spinning like Linda Blair in the Exorcist.

Isn’t that how Jimmy Barnes sing’s??? LOL!
He’s such an Aussie legend!
Thanks MB
I’ve never been complimented on my voice before. I can’t say I like hearing it recorded though!
Roberta, good descriptions for high brow and bogans!
Andi, Denny’s a good sport. I’m surprised he didn’t crack up laughing part way through.
I’m so sniffly today I’m glad I recorded it last night. At 3 in the morning, mind you.
Posted By jerseygirl on 4/12/2015 8:45 AM
Andi, Denny’s a good sport. I’m surprised he didn’t crack up laughing part way through.
He still amazes me – when it comes to me and my friends on BB, he never says no! But after I pressed the stop button, he did turn to me and say ‘WTH’, lol!
And I got him to add in the ‘bugga’ for JR, ha ha ha!
Ummmm……. I just had a quick read through again before going to bed and realised that some of you have heard Moxie’s recording??? How come I can’t see it for me to listen too??? ![]()
BTW….. HAZEL!!!
Hahaha Roberta your cat story is hilarious? Hubby finally broke down and asked about this BB story! I didn’t see Moxies??
Andi – I can’t even get the stupid website to work so I can hear other people, let alone record myself. =(
I added the site to my whitelist for flashblock. There is still no play button or anything. How is everyone else able to listen to the recordings?
I just click on it in the post, it takes me to the site and it plays automatically. Some I have to copy and paste, but once I have and pressed enter, again, it takes me to the site and plays without me doing anything.
Gosh LBJ – I’m devastated for you…… this is no fun if you can’t join in.

Andi you sound very Australian and you talk SO fast!
Roberta your voice sounds really different, it sounds more ‘posh’ somehow… what accent is that?
Probably a little bit untrained ears. Partially the story doesn’t really bring out US regional accents. Like mentioning parking would highlight Boston/MA accents. Banana or vase would be more telling. Asking us to pluralize “you” is telling.
Currently there is an ad for smelly air freshener, that plays off the different pronunciations of foyer based on class. They claim spraying it can make your “foy-your” smell like a “foy-yeh.” Awhile back there was another one base on the pronunciation of vase; “I got a v-ah-s for the price of a v-ay-z.”
It’s too noisy now, but later I need to record a story (doesn’t work written out) about two very different Americans in college.
ETA: Hear it is, sound quality is bad, and that’s not my best imitation of a Harvard accent.
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0TLMHw9Bj6i
Definitely untrained ears. Just like I kinda think all Australian and English accents sound the same, whereas you guys can pick out the regions.
As a side note, I mostly say “yawl” when pluralizing you, but sometimes I say you guys… but I don’t say yous guys. I live about 80 miles from where I grew up (from Richmond, Virginia to Heathsville, Virginia) and the local people can still tell I’m from Richmond, even though I’ve been living here 20 yrs. I DO talk MUCH slower like the local country folk, I used to talk a little faster than AH. The local people around here have different ways of speaking with only 10-20 miles difference between them. I find it fascinating! Then there are the local people that live on an island, just offshore. They talk completely different from everyone.
My mother grew up about 30 minutes from where we live and she pronounces alot of words differently. To her, house is pronounced more like “hosse” with a long O as opposed to “howse” like I would say.
I think to really show the different accents here, you would need to hear people from Arkansas/Tennesee, the Bronx, Boston, and maybe West Virginia and California. Those differences should be pretty obvious!
None of you Aussies talk like The Flying Doctors =/ But it’s SO nice to hear all your voices!!!
My PC doesn’t have a microphone and iphone doesn’t support in-browser microphone. And that’s probably a good thing, considering.
I literally sound wicked young though on the recording lol :^/ But I guess I’ll give it a go later. There’s a lot of people at my house right now and it’s noisy.
I love your accents AH and Denny!
There are still words people are pronouncing wrong. “Route” is supposed to be pronounce “Root” like a tree root. ![]()
Eepster, yours didn’t work for me.
JR–you can’t forget Northern MN! Definitely got some accents up there “ya sure ya betcha!”
Just got home from the movies. Hubby opened the condo and said “Binky Bunnies Mobilize! There’s basil in the kitchen! Go!!!!” hahahahaha
LLH — your hubby’s funny!
My allergies have turned into something else — head and chest cold I think. Hopefully I can try this in a few days. Been trying to figure out a way to get my hubby to do it too, but his Arkansas accent has turned into a mix of VA and Arkansas. Now if I could get one of his sisters to do it and send me the recording, or better yet his aunt — it would take forever for you all to listen to it though because she draws every word out . . . . bunny would be buuuuuuuuuuuunny! Talking on the phone with his family wears me out!
LLH— your hubby is very funny! ![]()
Love your hubby’s humor, LLH
Whoever asked: I’m from NY, so no Southern drawl here, though I’d love to pick up the Y’all. Don’t think I ever will though
These all sound so great. AH I can hear Blair and his TV in the background. Sooo funny. And good sport Den!!
I have your basic American accent. One of my best friends grew up in Texas, so she regularly says Y’all, and when I’m hanging out with her I start randomly using it too
lol.
Whoops, messed up basil and foil by stumbling over them! I can feel the beginning of a sore throat, so I’m not going to re-record. I decided to record mine before listening to anyone else’s so I don’t co-opt an accent, lol.
Interestingly, my voice seems much deeper than when I last recorded it a few years ago. Previously my the (high) pitch of my voice has always taken me by surprise. I’m also becoming gradually less enunciated… I keep realising that I don’t pronounce my ‘t’s enough – I blame my wife, lol.
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0rxXl8qEB19
All of you definitely have accents, my accent is close to Received Pronunciation which is more of a marker of class than region. (I think my parents faked their accents when I was young – my mother especially sounds NOTHING like me…)
BUT, British/English people definitely don’t all sound the same. Here’s a video of a kid with a Yorkshire accent – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sB3ieNhEsDY. I’d say Britian actually has quite a range of regional accents considering our size.
I do love listening to different accents. I have a particular weakness for Australian accents, I must admit.

You guys all sound so cool! I agree with Tessie, other than manic you Americans all sound really similar XD (manic sounds more southern than the others?)
Ive got a cold coming on so I sound a bit croaky but here yous go! ![]()
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0zJg0ouLdmm
Midnight, you sound SO cute! You little Scot, you!
Awwh thanks! People seem to love the Scottish accent, I have no idea why ![]()
Actually on the whole I wouldn’t say I like it, but you sound really sweet!
Awwh thanks :3
A couple years ago I had noticed how non-americans pronounced aluminum wrong. I just couldn’t understand how all these highly educated people could be making such a weird, but exactly the same, mistake. I looked up the word and noticed the spelling was indeed exactly how everyone ELSE was saying it, aluminium. Just like a typical american, we changed the damn spelling, and thats why we say a-loom-in-num!
Midnight, your accent isn’t anywhere NEAR as thick as a friend of mine is, she lives in Edinburgh, and when we first started talking on ventrilo about 8 yrs ago, I could barely understand what she was saying!
Ha ha ha! Yeah, most of my family are English so I don’t have a very thick Scottish accent
Even I struggle to understand some people!
I’ve lived in the South most of my life, and unfortunately never picked up a southern drawl. On the other hand, I have people that don’t know me accuse me at least once or twice a week of having either a northern (usually Pennsylvanian) or German accent. It’s probably from being an army brat.. My dad was from Arkansas and my Mom was born in NY and grew up in PA. So I guess it just fizzled. ![]()
Not sure anything can really be determined with this particular reading… especially since I didn’t really lisp anything because I was thinking about what I was reading. Still; it’s nice to hear everyone’s voices (my own excepted! I never did like listening to my own voice!)
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1VC8ILIelra
Found a thing on Tumblr that has to do with accents, too: Thought I would just add on in case anyone wanted a “Round 2.” There are a list of things to say that are supposed to stress accents: So here it goes!
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0DT38eR1n1z
– Where you’re from.
– Pronounce the following words: Aunt, Roof, Route, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Pajamas, Caught, Naturally, Aluminium, GIF, Tumblr, Crackerjack, Doorknob, Envelope, GPOY.
– What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
– What is a bubbly carbonated drink called?
– What do you call gym shoes?
– What do you call your grandparents?
– What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
– What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
Cottontail — Arkansas and NY combined, that would be a language all its own! Its a wonder I learned to talk at all, with my dad’s hoosier accent and mom’s country Virginia accent!
Growing up with the same parents, somehow my sister and I have different accents and pronounce some words differently. For example, the word “water” — I say it like “wahter” and she says it like “wooder”.
– What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
TP-ing
– What is a bubbly carbonated drink called?
Soda
– What do you call gym shoes?
Sneakers
– What do you call your grandparents?
Grandma and Grandpa
– What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
Shopping cart
– What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
TV remote
I thought I would just do these
Oh here’s another one: How do you describe biscuits and scones! Lol Tessie this one’s for you ![]()
TMS— I barely recognized you with your new siggy/profile pic! It’s really pretty though. ![]()
I might redo it another time. I had gum in my mouth, and my sister had just got home so her bird was really excited. That’s what the “Eee Eee Eeeing” was. lol.
And like I said, I sound wicked young. Like some 12 year old lol. (not that I have anything against 12 year olds.) o.O
Moxie — you sound so sweet! AH is gonna melt!
Ha ha thanks. ![]()
Moxie you sound adorable! And you don’t sound 12, don’t worry ![]()
I’ll do the list in a lil bit, hubby is napping at the moment and I don’t want to wake him cuz I’m making him a surprise for supper. Just wanted to add what GPOY means! (I had to google it)
It means “gratuitous picture of yourself”… which literally meant a picture.. BUT it has now evolved. Taken from BuzzFeed:
GPOY has evolved to mean anything you identify with. It’s telling of the circular culture of vulnerability and approval on Tumblr that you can post an idea that is not actually you and tag it #GPOY to communicate to the rest of the world that you identify so much with that idea, you might as well be that idea — in fact you are so strongly identifying with that idea that it is “gratuitous” for you to have even posted it.
MK I’d have all the same answers, so I won’t do it. Love the extra question, though ha ha
Manic — I have no idea what you said, but it sure looked good!
LOL! This is so fun. When I saw that Midnight and Moxie did their recording’s I couldn’t wait to play them! And I wasn’t disappointed – SO cute! No, you don’t sound young Moxie, just very sweet! Same with you Midnight, but I was a little disappointed your accent wasn’t thicker – I ‘love’ the Scottish (and Irish) accent, though I usually can’t understand what they are saying most of the time, ha ha ha!
Here’s CT’s version for you all…. http://vocaroo.com/i/s1YRz8vdTdoQ
And Tessie, you still sound like Rebel, I LOVE IT!
Cold is gone-I’ll be doing mine tonight! ![]()
I’ll be waiting Amanda…. I can’t wait!!! Excited, ha ha ha!
I would do it earlier, but I am NOT doing it at work… Heeheehee! ![]()
AH— I love Scottish and Irish accent too! ![]()
Cottontail you sound great! I don’t think anyone likes hearing their own voices! I think I sound annoying. I hate hearing myself in a voicemail especially!
MM–I love the birdie chirping in the background! You sound just like I imagined!
TMS-I love your accent!
Tessie-I love your accent too!!
Andi–the bunnies got excited and stopped eating hay when they heard your voice! haha maybe they want you to tell Henry hi??!!
Ok here’s Cottontail’s version. Sorry I have a boring American “Cowboy” accent
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0mm4CtHO06g
I want this cold or allergies or whatever this is to go away so I can do this! I’m so stuffed up I think I’m talking through my nose but echoing inside my head! I feel like the little kid who is sick and has to look out the window and watch everyone else play!
Sindriona where are you? You have to jump in on this!
I tried to do CT’s accent thing but as soon as I hit record my dog started squeaking her toy NON STOP, and I was getting text messages lol. I’ll retry tomorrow…
JR— Everybody I know has been sick! Stuffy nose, stomach cramps, migraines ect.
OMG YES…. Sindriona!
And a reminder for Hazel….. lol!
We need a Canadian to get onboard too!
Canadian??? LPT and rayray….. I can’t think who else???

OMG YES…. Sindriona!And a reminder for Hazel….. lol!
Heck no!
Lily will attack me if I read out loud. Not kidding. Sometimes she even does it when I’m on the phone.
It’s embarressing when phone calls get interrupted by me screaming “OUCH… STOP IT!!!… OH MY GOD!!!”
Hazel — let Lily in the bathroom so she can love on the toilet while you read aloud and she won’t even know you’re alive!
Come on Hazel…… PLEASE!!! Lol!
Oh! K&K and Monkeybun are Canadian??? Ooop’s! Lol!
And YES! I got it Kate…. ha ha ha! Love it – it made me smile!
BTW – The may be something wrong with my recorder? But it definitely doesn’t sound like me – I mostly did it so you could have fun with my (NON existent) accent!
Lol!
I thought Monkeybun was from Oregon…..?
Agh, I still can’t get any of these to play. I’m not sure why. I have firefox on my computer. Does that make a difference?
I’m using internet explorer…..
Jerserygirl – That isn’t what I see when I go there. The play button isn’t there for me. It is just a solid green bar in the middle of the screen.
Ah, I see. Shows how much I know. LOL
I am using Chrome, LBJ.
Ok, here’s my round 2 submission
OMG Kate – you sounded so prim and proper, just like Roberta, ha ha ha! I’m worried now that I sound like a scrag??? LOL!
But I promise you that I’m not…. Ha ha ha!
BTW – Except for you saying to the toilet paper question, a waste (LOL – that made me laugh!) and I said trashing it – we had the same answer’s! Go Aussie! Oh, you also sounded so softly spoken….. just lovely!
PS – And you still sound perfectly ‘normal’ to me! ![]()

Andi–the bunnies got excited and stopped eating hay when they heard your voice! haha maybe they want you to tell Henry hi??!!
LOL Justina! I bet they were saying ‘mum! what in the world is that???’ ![]()
I dont know about prim & proper Andi, lol. Maybe it’s just my reading voice? There’s definitely some bogan in me.
I only answered Qu 1 that way cos I’m on my last roll. If people are going to throw toilet paper at houses, throw it at mine. Preferably still in the packaging, thanks.
I am in hysterics reading your last post Kate!!!
I have a roll I can spare, ha ha ha! Just a shame we live a few driving days away from each other…..
Seriously, that was so funny!
PS – I reckon there a little bit of bogan in all us Aussie’s! Some (the High Brow’s) just don’t like to admit it, lol!
I just got it – DOH! manic was explaining what GPOY stands for/means in CT’s ’round 2′, ha ha ha!
Thanks manic! (I may be slow, but at least I work it out eventually…. ) LOL!
And I’m really disappointed that we can’t hear bam – I reckon her accent would be the best ever!

Haha JR does have a point! ![]()
Here’s my round 2 submission. Yet a gain, I have awful sound quality. My harddrive is spinning loudly near the microphone of my laptop.
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1qDHFPaauwd
JG “a waste” 😆
I love this. Its nice to hear everyone’s voices. I tried to do it earlier but it wasn’t working. I am in the process of trying to find a different mic to see if it will work. When hubby gets home I will ask for his help. I probably will have a hick accent being I am originally grew up in Oklahoma. Someone once described my voice as someone who sounded short. That’s funny but its true. I am 5 foot 2. It was kind of insulting though. I didn’t realize people sounded differently due to how tall they are. LOL
Sindriona — my old boss had a *very* deep powerful voice and he was only 5′ 5″ tall. He got a kick out of the look on people’s faces who had spoken with him on the phone but were meeting him in person for the first time. He would always say “bet you were expecting someone taller!”!
Sorry for the weird random noises! My round 2. wonder if just pasting the embed code works here in quick reply..-tries-
I ‘loved’ listening to you talk away Paradigm…. you are an absolute joy!
It didn’t work manic – try again!!!
I love English and Australian accents!
Paradigm, you are sooo soft spoken! I’m loving all the extra tidbits of information for why we say things a certain way guys! Love this thread!
Hmmm ok, it works on mine (using chrome) but here’s the link to it:
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0uuCJxpUH0a
Oh manic, do you know how awesome you are? Honestly, listening to you just now was like you were sitting across the table talking to me, lol!
I have a huge grin plastered on my face, ha ha ha!
<3 Andi
I loved your extra explanations MM. I kind of felt like some of mine should too, but I was worried about making it too, long.
Like with “mayonnaise” most of the time in conversation, I will just say “mayo.” like, “yes, I want mayo on my BLT.” Or with “T.P.ing” I feel like it needs the explanation that it’s a verb to be conjugated. “I want to T.P. my teachers house” “Jane is T.P.ing my house” “Bob T.P.ed the trees in front of the school.” “Who you gonna T.P. on Cabbage Night?” Etc.
Oh yes! Good point Eepster! I wanted to talk about mayo too!! I can’t remember how it sounds when I say the full word, I think I say it when I’m looking at it differently.. sometimes I say mayo.. but I think if I were to say the whole word it comes out sounding more strongly as man-naze. And I agree Tping is definitely a verb LOL. It couldn’t have been longer than mine.. with the extreme slowness of the south speak! ![]()
You know it’s kinda funny how slow I talk now, almost embarrassingly so. I mean my sister and I used to talk so fast with each other my father would have to turn to my mom and ask her if she could understand what we were even saying.
I had a little trouble saying Fluffers without spitting everywhere. I need to get use to these darn braces. hehe
Sindriona— I can definitely hear a southern accent in your voice.
I thought of a word we should all say! Chimney. ![]()
Darn it. lol I hope its not really bad.
Everyone else seems to not have too much of an accent. I think everyone’s accents are lovely.
Why you don’t like southern accents? I love them! I have friends for georgia and I could listen to the talk all day! ![]()
*from
I don’t mind having a southern accent I just didn’t want it to be really over the top southern. hehe I grew up in Oklahoma so I figured I would have an accent. When I was 18 I moved around because my husband was in the Navy. I moved back after being away for about 17 years. I lived in Florida for 11 or 12 years. It was the panhandle area. They have southern accents there as well.
I lived in Florida for the first 6-7 years of my life.
I only did Round 1. I was quite sick until a couple of days ago and talking is still sending me into a fit of coughing so I didn’t want to overdo it.
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1AteYEcEFK0
I’m having a lot of fun listening to everyone’s accents! And yes, everyone here does have an accent. It drives me absolutely insane when people say they don’t have an accent.
edit: I should get my mom to do it. Hmmm
You might need to turn your volume up for mine. And I started to stumble a bit because my computer was being difficult and wouldn’t let me scroll down. >.<
Playing catch up listening to all the recordings. Great to hear them all!
MxM, I love how you say chimney. I just say it boring-like: chim-ney (ie.chim-knee)
I think i saw something about biscuits and scones?
I say scone with short vowel sound. Sc-on. I know it’s sometimes pronounced sc-oh-n.
I think Americans call them biscuits?
Biscuits (bikkies) for me are what Americans call cookies.
Also, I noticed both Tessie and Paradigm use the term “fizzy drink”. I say that too, particularly when I was younger. Fizzy drink for birthdays and other celebrations. I’m glad my parents didn’t allow it as everyday drink. Many families now drink it in lieu of water.
Here I was disappointed that Sindriona had absolutely no accent whatsoever and Moxie hears a southern accent!
I was expecting more of an accent from Sindriona as well, with all the talk about it! No accent really to speak of.. though I don’t think I have much of an accent and apparently I’m like the epitome of the south, so maybe I’m not one to judge!
I say chim-knee too… I thought chim-a-knee was cute. ![]()
JR— Because she does have a bit of a southern accent!
Yeah I get saying Chimney like that from my father. ![]()
Oh, and by “Northeast” I meant in a norteast state of the USA. ![]()
Mox – I love the fact that you make chimney 3 clear syllables.
It reminds me of Mary Poppins. I slip back and forth with it, but when I use 3 syllables the 2nd is pretty darn fast so most of the time people don’t take note of it (I notice after it comes out of my mouth, though!). I think a lot of noticing accents and dialect comes from real conversation though… If I’m reading I tend towards proper pronunciation… but if I’m goofing off or frustrated my lisp and my accent come out to play! I spent 4 years in speech therapy when I was small because, on top of being shy, I had a horrible lisp. Eventually it cut down to just “r”s and I expanded my vocabulary specifically to avoid sounding out the letter! It’s mostly gone now, though.. but it does slip every now and then.
Examples of reading vs. relaxed speaking:
every: ehv- er – ee / ev – ree
you’re: yor / yer
get: geht / git
want to: wahnt too / (wahn na) or (wahn – ta)
(How are we going to do…) vs. (How’r we go-een t’do)
Cottontail— That’s like me too. When I read I pronounce things properly, and have more of an accent just plain old talking or goofing around. ![]()
Reminds me of the Jeff Foxworthy thing on southern accents
“Did you eat yet?” becomes “Geetyet?”
JR I am waiting to hear your accent submission! I want to see what kind of accent you have.
Speaking of Jeff Foxworthy southern accent types. we got lots of people who sound like he does down here. My husband’s older brother sounds like such a redneck. He is nice as can be but his accent is so funny sounding.
Haha, Manic – I’ve never really thought about having a softly spoken voice but compared to yours I definitely do! Thanks for your explanation of GPOY. I didn’t think to google it.
My English teacher used to get very cross when people didn’t say envelope with the same beginning as you.
I like how y’all sounds like it belongs to your accent (I suppose it does!) because when people here say it, it just sounds out of place.
Sindrionia – I really like your voice. It sounds very smooth.
Everyone has an accent!
MissGabbster- Woah, you speak quickly! I’m impressed that you can read aloud that fast and not stumble over your words.
Moxie – I’ve never thought of Chimney as a accent variable word.
My accent tends to vary depending on who I’m talking too but I think it’s mostly just me who notices. I was raised to believe that the way I speak is the only correct way. Even now, I mentally kick myself when I pronounce words sloppily (which happens fairly regularly these days) even though I know it’s bunkum.
LOL Paradigm just said I had a big mouth! ROFL
You should hear what happens when I get… excited or agitated. My hubby is always telling me to stop yelling. “I’m not yelling!” When I was a kid, we weren’t allowed to leave the yard, and a lot of my friends lived around the corner, a block or two away, so I learned how to project my voice rather far! It also worked well when I DID leave the yard and mom was calling me and I didn’t want to sound as if I was as far away as I actually was!
i cant record, but just think canadian and oklahoma accent combined. im dual citizen. (oklahoma accent is not southern, i dont think, i dont have a southern drawl, certainly!!!!) i love Britian!!! I’m a fan of the Royals, a huge fan, a very very huge fan.
Haha I just found this thread and I’m cracking up, I love everyone’s accents! I wish I spoke like you Aussies do!
Hey guys! I’m pretty new to BB but just came across this thread and was so entertained by it! Haha. Here’s mine. Anyone want to take a stab at where I’m from (aside from the fact that I’m obviously American)? ![]()
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0cTqSYu9p5u
It’s so fun hearing everyone’s accents!
I’m terrible at placing where an accent is from though ![]()
I think I might jump in on this, of course I’m one who thinks I don’t have an accent but I know everyone does technically. Here’s mine!
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0rOBeU0Rs4z
Will do round 2 later ![]()
Well, this is fun
There’s so many cool accents in this thread. I especially like the Australian ones
Here’s me: http://vocaroo.com/i/s07QonVCPVZ4
I get asked all the time if I’m French Canadian. But, nope that’s not it.
RorysMom–hubby and I are guessing midwestern like us
Bubbles I can see how people might think French Canadian. Your voice is beautiful!
Mimzy you have a lovely voice too!!
Thanks LLH! I guess I don’t have the typical Portuguese accent ![]()
Bubbles, I LOVE the way you speak! Very different from the others in this thread so far.
LLH, I’m actually from Northern VA. ![]()
Bubbles for most unique so far! Similar sounding to Alice Braga’s accent (from Brazil) when she played in I am Legend with Will Smith. I love it.
I didn’t think midwest, but I had no idea Northern Virginia either RorysMom!
Everyone has lovely voices. I cant seem to place accents very well either.
MM, Alice Braga is spot on. She speaks Brasilian Portuguese, and I speak European Portuguese. Kinda like British and American English in terms of the differences ![]()
Ahhhh that’s interesting! Really cool! I always loved the way she spoke, so cool hearing a similar variation with something like this! ![]()
