We adopted 2 un neutered young males and they were biting each other quite hard.  One of the bites has created a small hard bump under the skin. Is this something to be alarmed about?

I’d have a vet look at it, if it’s an abscess it will have to be treated. I wouldn’t let them have any physical contact until they’ve both been neutered. Are you trying to bond them?

I’m looking for a vet, I hadn’t noticed the bump until yesterday so it formed within the past day.  They have been separated since we got them.  It’s been about 5 days.  We are afraid to let them be together, but there pen is fence in between them so they spend a lot of the day sniffing and touching noses.  And they sleep next to each other too.

They definitely need to stay separated. In fact you should double up on the fence with a few inches in between so they don’t bite each other through the fence.

                Good idea.

                Thank you

Keep a close eye on the bump. Sometimes hard-ish scare tissue forms, but if that’s the case, the bump will not change in size (not even shrink, for a long time, at least). If it is an abscess it needs to be cleaned out and most likely treated with antibiotics.
