Just a quick update: she doing better. I’ve gotten food into her tonight and she’s still toileting though it not ideal in that department. I can’t say what is the trouble is/was but it had affected her appetite which is a big red flag with Jersey. But she’s become more enthusiatic toward food in the last few hours. : )
Thank you all so so much! ![]()
Did you ever try the stuff Katnip uses for Schroeder? I cannot think of it right off my head, but I know she’s posted about it somewhere.
Lactulose/enulose. No I haven’t. I thought about that again too as Katnip just mentioned it in a thread yesterday. I’ve found it on the shelf at the chemist before so it’s tempting to pick up. I’m supposed to get a fecal test done. I was waiting til meds cleared her system then drop in the sample but I have procrastinated. 😐
In the US it is prescription- Lactulose/Enulose. I am not sure about in Australia. I give Schroeder 3mls once a day- and he absolutely LOVES it. He still has some larger poos- but they look darker and as if they are easier to pass than dry, hard mis-shaped poos. If it is prescription- talk to your vet about it- my vet was willing to write a script in hopes it would help him. When you are already doing a proper diet- and there is not much else to change- my vet, even though she could find no sources other than the few from Dana Krempels- thought it was worth a try.
The first bottle I had for Schroeder was clear syrup and it must have been sweet. The refill we just got was green syrup and smells tropical- like Pina Colada (different manufacturer/ different pharmacy). The first dose Schroeder was not so sure about- but after that he is just as enthusiastic about getting it. He bounces off the ex-pen wall when he knows he is going to get it. It is not very expensive- about $28 or so for a 472 ml (1 pint) bottle- which lasts for approx 157 days- approx 5 months.
I bought the mineral oil- but never got around to giving any. It made me more nervous since he would need to take it well to reduce the chance of aspirating it into his lungs and causing a more serious, immediate health issue.
Glad she’s feeling better.
No more scaring ur momma little bunny lady! ![]()
I’m glad she is doing better but I know the whole thing causes such worry! Hugs to you and continued vibes for Jersey!
Good to hear she’s doing better!
I’m curious, since I have trouble still with Fiver and now Pip too…. This Lactulose stuff sounds promising. Is it just for misshapen/cow poop syndrome poos or does it work for any digestive distress involving malformed stool? (not trying to hijack your thread, Jerz, honest)
lol, it’s ok.
its an osmotic laxative. So it pulls water into the intestine. As for cow poopers – I don’t class Jersey as one but she does have hard stools alot so I suppose the lactulose could help there.
Ah, okay. Well that’s not what we need then. I’m looking for something to firm up cecals. 0_o
Poor Jersey…I can imagine not being able to go would be really hard on a bun. They’re normally so….prolific. ~_~
Haven’t posted till now but I’ve been thinking about you and Jersey! I’m glad she’s doing better.
I haven’t been on lately so I just saw this. I wanted to let you know that you and Jersey (and Rumball!) are in my thoughts. Healing vibes to little Jersey!
How is she doing today?
