        HI.
It’s time for my little guy to get neutered soon. He’s been mature for about a month and his testicles have dropped. They recommend 6 months where i’m taking him but they’ve said 5 months is okay. I was gonna neuter him next week 5 days before he’s 5 months and the next appointment after that one is in 2 weeks one day after he’s turned 5 months. I can wait but i’m concerned he’s gonna start spraying. He’s very good with using the litterbox but since a month ago started putting poop outside his litterbox and tomorrow he’s getting an x-pen to stay in at night. I’m a little worried he’ll protest not being able to freeroam at night by peeing on things. He also cant be around the cat anymore due to humping him and today he even put a poop on my bed he’s never put poop there before. Is there a big difference between neutering 5 days before he turns 5 months and waiting until he is?

New behaviors based on hormones can appear/fluctuate any day, but objectively, there’s no medically-informed difference between 5 days versus waiting until he is 5mo. Nothing magical happens at 5 months old. In fact, some rabbits have been neutered as early as 12 weeks old.

Nope, that 5 days won’t make a difference. If he’s acting super hormonal and he’s “dropped” then I think he’s definitely ready for the snip!

Unless he’s a super tiny bun like a Netherland Dwarf that could benefit from the extra growth weight for surgery, I’d be getting him done now, 5 months is safe.  Better to avoid those behaviours.

                  Thanks everyone.

I booked him for next week to get neutered. He’s very wild today and chasing the cat more than ever, i’m afraid he’ll annoy our cat too much so he swipes at him and they stop getting along. And he’s pooped more in my bed. He’s just a little thin even though he eats but if he’s too thin they’ll reject neutering him I hope.

Some younger rabbits could seem a bit thin until they “broaden out”. I would just maybe increase his pellet amount a bit. Everything sounds good though, good luck with the neuter! 🙂

These are just my suggestions. Please seek an experienced veterinarian if you have medical needs / questions. Thank you!
