        Hey everyone,

I am a bit of a noob to the forum this is only my second post, I’ve mostly been lurking since I got my mini lop for christmas. Well anyways, he is the sweetest thing every and loves to come and hang out with me on the floor or just go exploring on his own, but thats all he does. He mostly just sits and flops in his cage even if I leave the door open he still just lays in there. I’ve given him a phone book, a cardboard box with holes to play in, a rattle, baby keys, and willow balls. But he ignores them completly just doesnt care lays there and looks at me thinking ” what do you wnat me to do with thoses”. I dont know how old he is  so I can’t give you that info. He gets two diffrent types of hay, Kaytee timothy and a meadow mix. His pellets are the new Kaytee Timothy which I have found to be the best, and he gets timothy cubes to munch on as well. I also give him a ball full parsley, celery, romaine lettuce, and a few carrot sticks everyonce in a while. I’ve been giving him rasins as Ive been training him but he prefers celery bits then those. He will do the traning happily but for him to play on his own is just not happening. Iam just wondering if anyone else has a lazy bunny like me.

My girlfriend has a lazy bunny. All it’s life, it didn’t care for toys or anything. It’d just hop about whenever it felt like it but for the most part, it’d spend its time in one of three of its “vacation homes” in the apartment.

            welcome here!

everybunny is going to be different.  while i hate to make generalizations about rabbits, lops do seem to be a more calm breed (sometimes) than other breeds.  that may have some to do with it.

do you know approximately how old he is, or what stage of life he is in?  is he a baby (if you bought from a petstore this is most likely) or a teenager or adult?  has he been neutered?  if you rescued him, you should know if he has been neutered at least, even if you don’t know the exact age.

tell us more about his schedule… when does he come out to play?  rabbits are most active in the morning hours and nighttime… so if you’re only trying to play with him in the afternoon, you probably won’t get much of a response.  i can leave Meadow’s area open in the afternoon and leave the house for a couple hours and she own’t budge.

if you haven’t already… try to play with him late at night… between about 9-11pm (or later if you can stay up!)  my bunny is almost sedated during the day, but at night she becomes a binkying fool and loves to run and cuddle (and then run and cuddle some more!)

you’re still new at the bunny thing (this is your first, right?) so you’ll learn as you go what he likes.  different bunnies find different thing fun.  i would keep trying new toys and other forms of entertainment too.  check out the Language of Lagomorphs site, if you haven’t already.  that has great info as far as body language and deciphering behaviors.

              Thanks for such quick replies.

Well he is more active at night, thats when we do our bonding and training. Thats when I introduce his toys to him but he ignores them and just flops right next to me or go exploring in my room, he especially likes it under my bed. For his sleeping he likes to do that during the day. Like for instance, he is flopped out on his side right now, lol.

I know he was bought at a pet store, I would guess for him to be about 5 -7 months old. I know he is not neutered and I am looking on to that my my vet search has been to no avail. I did put a post in the care section because I have seen people form my area on here.

I’ll also check out that website too, thanks.

Lops are more relaxed? Hogeeze, I read that it was the other way around! 0.o
I was wondering why my daughter’s bun (a half lionhead with uppy ears) was so much more active than my loppy? Maybe this is why?
Mimzy is also more active at night, and usually about 4-5 a.m.! He also doesn’t mess much with his toys, but does seem to like his new grass ball and his straw mats. But for the most part, he likes to get on the shelf in his habitat and just stare at me. (He also watches over me while I sleep.) It’s so sweet to see him when I wake up…it’s like having a bunny angel! ^^
                  I still try to give him time outside his pen to run and play if he chooses. But most of our exercise is while I’m trying to get him back INTO his pen! Then he decides to REALLY move! ^^;
I just know they need room to move so that they don’t start having tummy troubles, but I’d just kind of take cues from your bun as to what he would like to do. Keep trying! When you find something he loves, enjoy it with him! He’ll love you for it!

Oh and please be careful with the celery, I understand you have to de-vein it of all those stringy pieces so they don’t choke on them? (maybe a Binky Member will help me with this?)

And welcome to the site! You’re going to love it here!

like i said the lop thing is a generalization… which i don’t like to make, and are definitely not always true with every bunny.  people also say that mini rexes are hyper but my Meadow is about as calm and laidback as they come.

with the celery, they don’t need to be deveined per se but they have to be cut into pieces no longer than one inch so the strings don’t bind up their bellies.

you’re in Ohio?  where are you?  i’m in the Cleveland area and i have an excellent vet.  are you in northern ohio?

I’ve only heard that you have to chop celery so it doesn’t string poops together? But Im not sure! Mine won’t touch it and I don’t like it so it’s a non-issue for us!

I’ve always felt that the larger the bun, the more relaxed they were. Guess there is no hard and fast rule.

My lop is very calm. He doesn’t ever play with any toys except he likes to run through his tunnel. He mainly eats, drinks, sleeps and ventures out of his cage in the late afternoon and then again at 9 or 10pm. My cat is very interested in him and Edson loves the cat. My cat is twice as big and very unsure of what exactly he is! It was pretty funny today my cat was at one end of the tunnel and Edson ran through and my cat freaked out and did a backflip!

The fact that he’s hanging out with you is a good sign, and is a point against there being anything wrong. As others have said, bunnies all have different personalities. Some really are just flat out lazy. Our Bailey, for example, is nicknamed “Marshmallow Boy” for a reason….we’ve often said that if he was human, he’d mostly be lounging on the couch, drinking a beer, and watching the game. Kind of like Scooter during football season.

Toki has never been attracted to toys either. Pumpkin loves to explore and fulfill her curiosity. But Toki has alway been shy. The only thing he likes are things that he can chew on. But he gets bored with real easily too.

sep1118 have you tried ‘food toys’ with your Toki?

Here’s one I tried recently with Rupert, it’s a toy AND keeps his hay off the ground…I bought a giant cat ball a while ago that has a little cat ball in it…anyways, I took the little cat ball out and threw it out and I fill the giant cat ball with hay. Rupert loves throwing it around and he eats tonnes of hay this way. Plus then I don’t put it on the floor! (he won’t take hay in his litter box)

Despite being on the mellow side, I have to say, if Mimzy had to be active, I sure wish he wouldn’t begin at 1 A.M. like he did this morning! >.< He had an absolute binky fit for about an hour and I couldn't get him to settle down and go back to sleep! (falls into her mug of coffee)
It IS kinda fun to watch though! ^^

I give mine celery all the time and they love it, I just chop the stick part of it up into small pieces.
