As some of you might remember, Brambles has been suffering from symptoms of I.S.S. for a few months now. Unfortunately, his “all-hay diet” has not corrected the symptoms and the diet has been heartbreaking for us (the owners) to watch. He has also developed an additional symptom that makes us suspect parasites…This means he needs to return to the vet, get lab work done, and get medication. Unfortunately the “exotic” vet treatment comes at a difficult time, financially, for my girlfriend and I, so we asked the Humane Society of Fairfax County, where we adopted Brambles, for help. They have graciously offered to cover the costs of his treatment! I just wanted to tell you all this story and express how happy we are for this blessing.

If anyone would like to say ‘thanks’ to Carol at Fairfax HS, you can send her an email at: PETS [at] hsfc [dot] org

that’s so great to hear. it is scary having a pet sick and not having the funds to cover it. esp. these days, it seems everyone is having a hard time financially. i’m so pleased that they can do that for you.

            (((((((((Brambles))))))))

now i may have missed this before… what is I.S.S? he’s on a hay only diet?

that people are so helpful like that around this time when the economy and all

Beka, Intermittent Soft Stool – VERY messy and quite foul soft stools that get all over the bun and whatever they happened to let loose on…it’s been a miserable few months cleaning it up every day. This is usually caused by an inappropriately low-fiber diet (we suspect the shelter’s fault as we adopted him in this condition and give him a perfect diet). The vet recommended an “all-hay” diet to correct the condition, but it has not worked and has been a terrible process (denying him veggies, watching him lose weight, seeing him with low energy every day).

Is your vet going to send the fecal pellets to a lab for testing?

Has she done a fecal float before on it at her office?

Sarita, yes the vet is going to do lab tests on the stool. I don’t think the vet has done a “fecal float” before, but it sounds gross 🙂

I will definitely keep everyone posted as we find out more and get him healthy again. We set the appointment for Tuesday 4/29.

Poor little Brambles. A palomino? He looks like our Pippi minus the neck ruff. We all send many healing vibes and prayers for him and for you!

awwww… poor brambles & poor you & your girlfriend for having to watch him suffer through the diet changes.  i know about financial burdens with baby’s mastecomy & urinary issues, pinky’s spay and bogart’s worm meds & eye problems i was past my limit $500 ago.  *sigh* it’s so great that you have some assistance with his expenses!  i hope you get to the bottom of his ISS soon & the poor boy gets to eat his fav foods again soon.
