A Good DIY cheaper version of this?

So, I’m trying to start a rescue (here’s a link to my post about that: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/124989/Default.aspx ) but I’m thinking of having something like this ONLY for sleeping in: http://www.bassequipment.com/Cages/Rabbit+Cages/Stackable+Rabbit+Cages/default.aspx but preferrably not that price. So I’d like to build my own version of it! Bascially, I just want stacked cages. I also have some bigger cages (in case a large rabbit breed, or litter, etc, comes in) on hand.

Then, for during the day I want a rabbit run of some sort. I have to figure out the run as well. If I did an outdoor supervised run, it would need separate areas, need a top over it, and need to be VERY shaded, but obviously tall enough for them to stand and binky.

Any ideas on a DIY for both the RUN and the cages for sleeping would be AMAZING!   Or any ideas for habitats for this situation! FYI the backyard is huge, but there will be a garden area as well as an area for the doggies to do their business.  Also, of course, I don’t want them to primarily live outside. I’m a house rabbit lady.

I built stacking cages out of NIC for two of my buns (to save space) but I don’t think they would be suitable for a rescue scenario.

My local rescue builds their own cages and runs. Check out:

They’ve updated their facilities since the video but it might give you some ideas.

If you’re interested in doing something similar you could probably email them and ask how they built them. Or if you have any local rabbit rescues you could email or call and ask something similar.

Well, I guess first and foremost what kind of space will you be having and how many rabbits?

I think you should consider doing x-pens instead of cages. Cages are harder to clean and sanitize. X-pens can be used again and again.

I’d go with xpens too. Perfect amount of space, super easy to clean, compact when not in use. It’ll also give any possible rescuees a reasonable idea of space needed for a bun.

Thank you all so much for the tips! My personal buns have a c&c cage. Perhaps I can make the sturdy separate levels for the rescued! Xpens are something I’ll be looking into as well.

For the run. You could make two very large runs and then just let out the rabbits seperatly for long periods throughout the day.

I would also suggest X-pens. They are big enough for the entire day and night, they can hold two rabbits (if you are bonding a pair or have a bonded pair), and they are easy to clean. Please let me know how it is going!
