› FORUM › RESCUE EFFORTS FOR SHELTERS › A bun from the streets
On a normal night on an average day, I was hanging out at my boyfriend’s house. I had left my sweater in the car so I went back outside to get it. It was a bit of a chilly night in October. While I was outside, I saw a rabbit sitting in the middle of the road. It was impossible to miss her bright white collar, the white diamond on her cute little face, and her white socks. The markings indicated she was a Dutch, a domesticated breed.
I approached her and she let me get a foot from her before darting under a parked car nearby. My friend managed to pick her up from under the car and we walked around the neighborhood to ask if anyone had lost a bunny. People said that she did not belong to them, but that they had seen her wandering the neighborhood for a week.
Although I had never owned a rabbit before, I wanted to give this one a home. She had probably been abandoned in the park nearby, even though she was less than a year old. So I did, and I haven’t regretted a moment of it. Thumper was spayed today so I decided to search the net for post-care info and for new toys for her to enjoy during recuperation. I am also planning on adopting a hus-bun for her from a rescue sight that does matchmaking! I found a lot of good information here, and so decided to join this group. =) So that’s my story!
That’s so great that you saved her! Congrats on your new bun!!! ![]()

Thank you for saving her. I don’t think you will regret it for one single second. She’s lucky that someone caring like you has given her a home and a second chance.
It is amazing how many rabbit lovers are made in exactly that way. Welcome.
Arrr how cute, i have always wanted something to happen to me like that, just fate, so lovely xx I bet your connection with her feels extra special xx
She’s a very special bunny. =) She even converted my boyfriend who told me not to take her home at first. Now he visits her whenever he can, calls her “our” bunny, and posts pics of her on his online car forum.
They really have a lot more personality that people think, and Dutchies are especially charming. I’m glad she found you.
Congrats and thank you for rescuing her (and doing the right thing in getting her spayed!!!). I wonder if she was a ‘forgotten’ Easter bunny. I hope she brings you many years of joy!
Aww thats sweet, no matter how messed up the news today is, hearing story’s like that lets you know your not the only one that cares.
My bun was saved from……well….Dinner…., we been through our downs(He kills the internet, he has cut the cord twice!!!) but even in the short time with him i love him, i do not think i will ever regret it, no matter how much stuff he gets in to haha.
Here here, Josh! Wow, saving a bunny from dinner is intense. Where did this happen?!
Thumper’s done her share of chewing through cords too. She completed chewed through my Rockband drums and mic and the vacuum cord is all covered up in tape! She was just giving me a crash course in Bunny-proofing. =) But yes, it’s definitely worth it to have a funny bunny.
Here’s a picture of her the day after I found her:

Here is Thumper a couple months ago:
And this is my smitten boyfriend this past fourth of July:

BTW, we think she’s part Lionhead because she has a mini-mane and a furry butt!

she is adorable
Kinda not so epic haha, i just kinda begged for one, i knew i couldnt save them all, so i just took one=( i would have tried to get more but i didn’t know if they where any better off with me, my first bunny i didnt know so well how to take care of him.
But i do ok!!, at least i think i do!!
Yes, there is part lionhead in that bun. I once found a black/white Lionhead dwarf mix with blue eyes. All the greatness in one package. And all the attitude too!
Welcome!
He’s a beautiful bunny – I am partial to gray ones.
He looks so healthy since you’ve had him. That’s really great that you found each other.
Great story, gotta love happy endings! Thumper’s an amazing mix, so cool with the lion head bits. Love that but shot too! I’d hazard a guess she a chesnut agouti colouring too. My lop is this colour and Thumpers brown areas look identical. It’s a kinda fascinating colour to me. You’re are very lucky to have found each other. ![]()
Two of mine were saved from various parks…you mentioned your in So Cal in another thread…Do you mind my asking where you guys live? I’m in Long Beach.
My boyfriend lives in Bellflower and there’s a park a couple blocks away from where he lives, that’s where I’m guessing she was dropped off. So yeah, same general area. So then it seems like a lot of people in the Long Beach area drop off their bunnies at parks? =/ I went to school in Irvine and there were a lot of rabbits, but I’m pretty sure they were all wild. However, I would not be too surprised if a lot of them were domesticated. Someone told me once that they “let free” their aged rabbit at the park at Cal State Long Beach, as if it was better for them…
Wow, you’re really close to me! I went to grad school in Irvine–yes, all those rabbits are wild.
I found Robbie in Rec. Park (on 7th Street) in LBC…he lived under an old building in a burrow with 2 skunks. He was the only one I saw there.
Long Beach City College has HERDS of rabbits that are the descendents of abandoned Easter bunnies. They’re a pretty tough lot. The City College community actually loves them, and leaves out water/pellet dispensers, and tons of greens. Obviously, they don’t live as long as a pampered house bun, but most of them haven’t known any other life, and are basically feral, so I feed them greens when I’m up there, but don’t worry about them too much…
Until a couple months after Easter. THAT is when @#$’s drop off the NEW crop of Easter bunnies. I just want to kill those people. That’s how my boyfriend and I got Little. I was working at the City College, and I’m pretty familiar with how all the feral buns behave, but there was this itty-bitty dwarf, colored like an English Spot, looking like she didn’t belong and was really confused…so I scooped her up, and she bit me, and now she’s my boyfriend’s “baby bunny girl”…aka the devil (she ONLY likes my boyfriend and his boy bunny…hates me and my brood!).
I’ve never seen any buns at Cal State…only at the City College.
If you ever want to come up to Zooh to look at buns, let me know. I work Fridays. Or if I can be of any help, email me.

Thanks, Lightchick! =) You must know bunnies pretty well if you were able to spot a domestic bun out of the crowd.
Maybe she did say City College and I just confused the two. That would probably make more sense. That’s so sad! @#$es indeed.
Aww, that’s a very happy ending for Thumper! She is beautiful and lucky you found her!
I just saw this thread-I’d wager she’s part lionhead-fuzzy butt and fuzzy chin
That’s so neat you rescued her -and from the streets no less!
