Oh my gosh this is annoying. Water bottles. Frickin water bottles. I’m struggling so hard to find a good one. Does anyone know a good one to use?

Ironically, the cheap Walmart one works well but is way small for Sails as he is growing fast. I’m thinking of getting the bigger one and having a go at that one. I had gotten the smaller size. Opposed to the glass bottle I got with my Nat Geo cage. It’s actually really horrible, but I love how big it is.

That’s what I need, a large water bottle, a complete no leak nozzle and that’s about it.

        Any suggestions anyone?

Feel free to leave links. I use Amazon mostly. I was looking at this bottle here, does anyone have this bottle? I like the flat shape.

Also was looking at this one?

Kinda concerned about the nozzle measurements for the last one, it’s only 13mm and I don’t know really how all the bottle nozzle stuff works. I want to get the biggest water bottle I can. I don’t think a 2 liter will work but maybe a normal water bottle? Preferably 1 liter. Like an Evian bottle.

Not trying to impose my opinion in a way that makes it sound like I’m saying you’re wrong or anything but you could try a refillable water bowl (that’s what I use though my rabbit is also cage-free). They can access more water throughout the day since the bottle takes longer to get water out of and they tend to not get as much as they need from it. I haven’t heard much good about bottles in general so I’m not sure if there is a ‘good’ one out there. Maybe someone else has a good response though

Haha it’s all good! I actually thought about this. Sailor will be cage free soon! Unfortunately he loves to toss his bowls around but the water weight will solve that issue I suppose. So I might just go with a refillable water bowl. I do, however, want to make sure he gets plenty of water if I’m out of town. I shall look into it!

Yeah some people get those heavy ceramic bowls for that reason and also with the water weight with a refillable one, like you said, seems to be fine to hold the bowl down. Glad I can help

That’s the bowl I use at the bottom of this post.  It’s way too big for my bunny to do anything, like tossing it.  I think the reason that the bottles are suggested for most people is the issue of keeping it clean.  Often my bunny gets hay in his water and some bunnies get poop in their dishes.  My vet said he usually suggests a bottle because most of his clients with bunnies don’t regularly change the water (or make sure the dish doesn’t have yuckiness in it)   I was told by the HRS in GA that water dishes encourage drinking more than bottles, which I’ve also found to be true.  You should see my little guy drink his water…It’s awesome   I also found it almost impossible to keep the bottles from leaking or dripping and I tried at least half a dozen different ones!

My water bowl for my bunny isn’t really near any hay and not even right next to food either so I’ve never had any issues with anything getting inside so if your bunny isn’t free roam and has some sort of enclosure I guess it would be just fine to keep it some distance away from hay and such

You should use a bowl, they are easier to get water out of for the bunnies and more comfortable for them to drink out of.

Thanks for your suggestions. My bunny tends to step into water bowls. Not sure how to stop it, so, in order to keep everything clean, I’m stuck with a bottle. Any advice on how to get him to stop doing such things? He always finds a way to hop in it. I already have a water dish with a huge tank on it. He just dirtied it up due to him jumping and I had to toss out a lot of water, which is a huge waste. A heavy bowl I can easily get ahold of if need be!

My new bunny was the first I’ve had that just steps right in water bowls, so I know your pain LOL I just moved it to a different area of his enclosure and he seems to do it less frequently now, even though he drinks just as much. He also gets hay in there, even though his hay isn’t really close to the water dish…Small pieces that get stuck to his fur maybe? I just clean the dish out and put fresh water every day and it seems to work well. Like I said, I’ve never had good luck with bottles, so that I don’t have a suggestion for a good water bottle. I think a good heavy dish might work better for your situation than the tank-type water dish…Like you said, lots of wasted water that way when he tromps through it LOL

I’ve never had this problem really… hmmm is it because your bun is small? because I’m sure once the bunny is bigger it’ll be too hard to step into the bowl anyway..right? Haha

My bowl is big, as that is what I bought from the North Georgia rabbit society. They said that big (heavy) bowls with lots of water made it more likely the rabbit would drink and that you could leave enough water for them to have plenty all day long. They even made me sign a contract that said I would give filtered water to my bunny!

UPDATE: I went the water bowl/container thing route.

It’s very nice! They’re not really sold anymore I don’t think but it’s awesome.
