My young female rabbit, in which has only been in my care for a few days, has been making very loud, unnatural wheezing/squeaking noises, almost similar to that of a kazoo or a deflated dog toy. She does this randomly, and it only lasts for about 5 breaths but the breaths seem stressed and uncomfortable. The first time I noticed it she then cleaned herself afterwards, so I assumed it was to do with her cleaning yet I have another rabbit who is about 11 months old and I have had other rabbits previously and have never heard this noise before, and since then she has done it without cleaning herself afterwards. She also makes whilstling noises when I pick her up, yet I believe this is down to stress and do not believe this to be serious.

My question is, do I seek veterinary advice for the wheezing noises? Or is this something to do with rabbit behaviour and perhaps she is just stressed from changing homes?

        Thanks for your help!

Wheezing comes from obstruction in the lungs/airway canals, so I would recommend going to the vet so a professional can listen to her lungs and chest properly. It’s better to be safe than sorry, and she’s also only 8wo, so it’d be good to do a check-up regardless!

Wheezing is definitely not normal so I’d second Wick’s recommendation of going to a vet.
