my baby boy rabbit is peeing out white stuff.  not always, sometimes his urine is clear.. but WHAT is the white stuff?  sometimes he pees on the couch and it is hard to remove.. and its almost stickyish?  I am not sure, I try not to touch it.  But it sticks to the inside of his pen where he pees (he does do litterbox, but apparently not always). Is this just normal baby bunny stuff?  becuase when I clean his pen, it is everywhere.. I am sure he is marking his territory in some way.

Is this white stuff normal?  He doesn’t seem sick.. he is being a normal happy bunny.  But it is starting to get gross.. and it is hard to clean!

I had a boy bunny since he was a baby and I don’t recall anything like that. I think it would be a good idea to call your vet and describe this. If it’s a normal discharge, or related to what he’s eating, she’ll tell you.

Bunny urine does change color on occasion, the most common being an orangey/red that is often mistaken for blood, and that is normal. But this is sticky so I don’t know offhand. Anyone else familiar with this?

When Mellow was still on all alfalfa, and before I got him fixed, his urine would have some white in it. Idk if it was the calcium in the alfalfa or what. But, as soon as I started him on more fresh greens and grass hay, his urine does not have the white and it doesn’t stink like it did, either. Definitely call the vet, they should be able to give you a guideline of what is normal and what is not.

After eating alfalfa Indy would have white urine. I stopped feeding it to him and it doesn’t happen anymore.

Sometimes bunnies will excrete calcium, and a little bit is normal, but if you are noticing alot of it or it’s sludgy – thick, then you may need to get his urine tested as some rabbits do have problems with calcium (like my bunny Jack).

What does his diet consist of right now? What type of pellets and hay as well.

I didnt start this thread but now i am a bit worried about Marshallow so Ill tell you what he is eating. He has alfalfa pettets and a mix of alfalfa hay and timothy hay I am working on weaning him off the alfalfa. I also feel him romaine lettuce and parsly about a cup total in at night  for a treat he loves bananas ,rasins he dosnt seem to like but he would do anything for a banana I only give him 2 slices, small ones, a day .

My rabbit gets alfalfa pellets and alfalfa hay since he is young.. he is just reaching the age where he can start getting greens, so i’ll start that.. but i think it probably is the calcium too after some further research.. should i not be giving so much alfalfa??

I’d still take him to a vet for a check up, we could be totally wrong too

definitley! no worries, a vet visit is in order.. i just wasn’t able to make it in this week bc of my schedule! since he is fine (not a super emergency) i figured waiting a week would do no harm.. and just to be sure i went and bought timothy pellets for him instead of the alfalfa he was getting.

Should be fine to transition him to the timmy pellets. Monkey always hated her alfalfa, so she started on timothy early. She’s doing fine Perhaps keep the alfalfa hay though, as he’s still growing he could still use the extra nutrients.

Alfalfa is calcium rich, but most young bunnies get alfalfa for their fast growing bodies, but a change may be in order if the urine is showing that there is more white than what should be normal. This is something that you can check out with your vet. Let us know how that goes! (Just be sure that if you do make a pellet change to Timothy, do so gradually)

Does your bunny drink enough water? If your bunny isn’t a big water drinker, he could also have concentrated levels of the calcium due to that and his alfalfa rich diet.
