2:45AM and Thumping!!! ARGH!

  It is 2:45AM and Mr August is Thumping up a Storm! It is so loud on the plastic on the bottom of his cage! I just went in ther and pushed his head down three times and scolded him… He Stopped!!!! He was doing that since about 11PM… I gave him and Buster some veggies and treats and for some reason he got mad at me… Last night when I was giving them hay and veggies I left his door unlocked (which he NEVER comes out right away, He usually takes a long time for him to come out) and went over to Buster’s cage and was feeding him and August jumped out his cage and ran over towards Busters cage and sprayed all over the floor… It was so fast I didn’t even see it… He’s never done that before!

  Your bunnies are beautiful. I love the profile story of Mr. August. Sounds like Mr. August isn’t too happy with Buster’s presence. So he may be thumping to display his displeaure, and then that spray…well, obviously that was the final “hmpf!” to that drama. Sounds like you will soon be fixing them so if that should help with that.
  
  Sometimes bunnies to will thump later at night when things begin to quiet down and certain noises begin to stand out and make them scared. If this continues to happen, sometimes adding white noise to their environment, like a fan is helpful. Just don’t point the fan in their direction if the temps are fine. If you have a radio, sometimes low soft music helps some bunnies as then the creeks and other noises at night are no longer the focus.

  oh i remember when Meadow had a plastic bottom cage. she didn’t thump often, but the few times she did, JEEZ OH MAN! it echoed thru the house! did he do it again last night, i’m curious if it was just a one-time thing.

  Sometimes Kahlua gets mad at us for reasons unknown and will stomp and stomp for what seems like hours…I feel your pain

  Well… he hasn’t done it again since then…. He stomps like that every now and then… Mostly in the evening… SEVERAL weeks ago he did it during the night and kept doing it till I finally went in there and fussed him… I have NO idea why he was doing it. He does have a plastic bottom cage and it is SOOO Frikin’ LOUD! It is not thumping either, it’s STOMPING! He gets this mean look on his face too… LOL! He does the bunny 500 in his cage right in the middle of the night, EVERY night… He runs from down in his cage to the upstairs in his cage… Over, and Over and Over and every time he hits that plastic bottom it sounds like a bomb!

  Try lining the bottom of the cage with a thick vinyl or a layer of rubber or foam mat with vinyl on top. So it’s still easy to clean. Some members use a product called cloroplast (sp?) to line the base and levels, though I am not overly familiar with this.
