The past 2 days, I have been letting out Stinker Bunny…. << his new name since I found out what we thought was a she was a HE....  in the mornings instead of late at night like I previously had.  His litter habits have been pretty impeccable, meaning he just doesn't go while he's allowed freedom.  I'm wondering if it's due to the time of day change or if it's that his hormone are calming down and he has more control.  He still goes in his cage wherever he feels like.  That hasn't changed much.  He did jump in his box to urinate the first day after I brought him home but I think that was a fluke.

This is how his pen is arranged.  Of course, now he has his new playmate, Snow, who is 6 weeks old and so there is poo everywhere.  Snow doesn’t leave the pen though, so it’s all very contained at least.  Stinker is actually doing amazing now.  He doesn’t have but the occasional poo drop on the floor when he’s let out for play time.  He can’t quite convince Snow to follow him, which may be a good thing.  LOL

So if I’m understanding you correctly, he’s doing very well outside his cage, but he’s not too careful about being in the litter box once inside?
Bunnies don’t urinate all that frequently, so they can go for hours outside the cage and not use their litter pans. Mine will stay out, often napping, and then wake, stretch, and mosey on back to her house for a quick pee, then stay there or come back out. Same with poos. A bunny post-neuter will always be a bit better in their behavior and habits. If Stinker (love the name) is not getting it in the box at any time, try putting all the stray poos into the litter pan as soon as you see them, and soak up any pee with a plain paper towel, then leave that in the litter pan too. He may need basic training to get it all back in one place.

May I ask how much the neuter cost? My bunny is now 5 months old, and I guess I need to start considering getting her neutered…

Can i ask how his cage is set up? Is there any bedding or other absorbent material? It sounds like he definitely has the idea of not going wherever he chooses, and he’s able to hold it, so I’m wondering if some simple cage changes might help him get the idea once inside his cage.

My Otto will often go 12+ hours without returning to his litter box to pee, and he’s never peed outside the box, so bunnies can hold it for a long time if they choose.

Rabbit neuters vary in cost from area to area. Also, the female spay costs more then male castration as it is a more involved surgery. Costs can be around $180 – $400 roughly. If you’re happy to post the general area where you live, or even just the State, members may be able to give you a more specific costing.  There are also some low cost neuter programs around that cover rabbits too.

His neuter cost $86 plus $12 for pain medications. I live in Missouri. I have a picture of his set up that I posted ..now if I can just figure out how to get it on here… hmmmm

I posted the picture above of how his cage is rearranged now. And also, as I mentioned above under that picture, since I posted this, he actually hasn’t had but the occasional stray poo on the floor during his outings.

I just got my bunny neutered, I live in LA, and it was $197 but with pain meds (and maybe the cost of a nail trim, not sure if they charged me) it came to $224.
