Okay I was sleeping and I woke up because the two boys were chasing each other around their cage.  It almost looked like a dog chasing its tail. They were both close together with their faces towards each others rear running in a circle (chasing). It may sound confusing.  Does anyone know if they may be fighting or playing.  I noticed a strange smell once I seperated them.  Could they be spraying, or trying to harm each other.  Sorry I know its always so random with me. I put a baby gate down the middle of their cage for tonight.

Amanda, it’s hard to say if it’s fighting or a form of play but separating them was probably wise. Do you know, HRS says males can be sexually mature “around 3 months” and this is age I commonly think BUT I just read this:

In any case of domestic rabbit babies, do not remove the babies until they are a full eight weeks of age. Separate the male babies from the females at this time. Males can become sexually mature as early as ten weeks!

I have posted this link a few times recently but hadn’t read that!  Sooo…maybe their hormones have started to arrive? Maybe it just a post-wean thing. I really don’t know. It’s looks so young when you speak in weeks instead of months.  10 wks or 12wk=3months.  Have you had anyone else sex them – for 2nd opinion?

I took my bun to the vet at 8 weeks and his man parts had already dropped! So I guess it’s possible that their hormones are starting to kick in already.

How old are they again? If they are away from mom, that’s a good time to seperate. The smell was probably urine spray Yummy

Are they spraying urine on each other?  Is the smell sort of skunky smelling.  If so these 2 things mean they are marking. They can give poops with the musky smell to mark also.

Yes I would seperate them for now sounds like they are maturing and may actually hurt each other soon.

When Cotton and Laith were young Well Laith was 7 mos and Cotton 5 months.  I had neutered Laith.   A month later Cotton started chasing him so I kept them seperate after that.  Though when Laith went to the RRB  Cotton really missed him.
