The HSUS is assiting a shelter in the Memphis area with trying to place 119 rabbits seized in a cruelty case.  The rabbits were raised for show and appear to be in good condition.  The shelter is not equipped to handle rabbits and they need to be moved asap. If you may be able to help these rabbits [foster, adopt etc.] contact:

there is some more contact info. the bunnies seem to be all lops in “unusual colors”.

The shelter is desperate and needs help with placing these rabbits.
They are not spayed or neutered [but otherwise appear to be in good
health] and if a veterinarian were to offer their services with fixing
some of them, that would be welcome.

But beyond that, they just do not have the facilities for long term
housing for over 100 rabbits [they seized 30 dogs as well]. If you can
help by taking in rabbits AT ALL, please contact the shelter directly
          at:

          (901) 385-6484

If you are a veterinarian and can help with spay
neuters, please ask for Kim Scheu, the shelter director, who you can
          also email at kscheu@cityofbartlett.org

          *sigh*

Oh no – it is terrible how bunny situations can get out of hand so quickly! I just helped with a large scale rescue in Southern California, our technique for helping the bunnies was to get on the local news to talk about the situation, and reach out to the community for foster homes. In some cases we had bunnies in people’s climatized garages that they didn’t even take care of, the volunteers would go over every day to take care of the bunnies – obviously this wasn’t an ideal situation but we did manage to find over 200 homes for rabbits. We have one from the rescue – and something they might want to advertise is that bunnies that come from these situations seem to usually be very easy to bond. We had almost no problem bonding the rabbits from this large rescue because they were so used to living in groups already. It only took 1 day to bond the one we adopted to our rabbit.
