I made MikeBun build Indy’s mansion today. We started shopping at home depot and 5pm, and it’s now almost 3am and the doors are going on finally! My lower back is killing me and I hardly did anywork…although holding the light outside in the dark can take a lot out of you! Here’s some photos of the building process…it’s a monster!! My dad was really nice and let us use his power tools, as long as we took good care and covered the bikes lol. finished product is soon to come as soon as the doors are on I’ll take more photos! It’s 5’5” tall, 4’2” across and 2′ deep! 3 stories!
Almost done!!
I made MikeBun…
Well, I’m sure he’d do anything for Indybun anyways.
Yes, I see you took care in covering the bikes. lol
Seriously though, it looks great. What an Awesome friend!!!
Will be requiring pictures of it all pimped out…er…I mean “decorated” and being inspected by Indy. Ta
Well it’s pushing 5am…we’re done for now. I need to add grips on the ramp, and some how hang the hay rack. I ran out of zip ties so I’ll have to pick some up. I’m so sleepy. !
Thanks Jersey!
What a beautiful tribute to your guy!!!! It looks awesome, I bet he will be so happy. I love looking at pictures of what people are building. You are lucky to have this!!!! I will be building a new one soon out of Cubes. I will post when I am close to done. My Nili is a jumper and I have decided that I need to provide more of an enclosure for her. Soooo….back to the drawing board. Now, go get some sleep!!!!!!
That looks awesome!!! Great job MikeBun!!! And good job… uhm… holding the flashlight Lintini? LMAO!
This is amazing! Congrats! You bunny is very lucky!
Ps. Love the bikes.
OMG that cage is AMAZING! Can you pack MikeBun up in a box and ship him to my house for a few days? I have some projects that I need to have done….
Very nice! Bet Indy loooves it. Except that he can’t escape it very easily hehe
Now, make MikeBun post more Jack pics.
i love how mikebun hasnt commented on this forum yet…
Mikebun is probably still passed out lol
lol
AWESOME CAGE! I wish I had someone to make me something like that! – Great job to Mikebun! And Lintini of course for…. cheering him on!
Did you put linoleum over the wood – sorry if this was already mentioned. If not(even though it looks lilke you did) I think you should just in case there are any ‘accidents.’
It looks so nice and professional – I am still stuck with my NIC cage (which I still like very much) but it is not nearly as snazzy looking as your wooden mansion!
Thanks everyone!
Yes it is covered in linoleum to protect the wood! I covered the ramps with fleece temporarily and he is already using them, even one that I didn’t cover yet at that time. We are so tired lol. That was so much work and I was really bratty making us do it all in one night. Crazy! It’s so much larger now that I’ll have to get more toys!
i am thinking of building a cage like that how much did that cost?
As Mikebun collected the wood onto the flat cart I saw the money flying out of my purse. All materials; wood, hinges, locks, braces, wire, screws and tile came to $200. The wood was the most expensive.
I’ve installed some grids to the 3rd floor to make a separate door so that I can keep the door open but not be afraid to lose Indy from a fall off the 3rd story. I’ll take a photo soon, I have a few of him in it but the battery died and is charging!
That cage looks awesome Lintini! I bet he LOOOOVES it!!!
Kind of off topic, I know you have mantioned bonding before. Are you planning on bonding Indy with Bun or Blossom or both?!
That is nicely done. I want one just like it! ^_^
However, my hubby doesn’t measure stuff out while building…he ‘eyeballs’ it…hence something always comes out looking crooked.
Will have to show him these pics. I could actually see all three of my buns living in a spacious condo like this. Beautiful!
I’m glad that everyone seems to really like the cage. I’m so sore from building the whole thing in one night. Indy’s one lucky bunny, i thought jack had a big house, but Indy’s got a whole mansion now, lol. Id say that I had a pretty good time building with with Lintini’s help. But would I do it again soon? Yea right, Im beat.
For Monkeybun, Ive got some recent pics of jack, I’ve just been a little lazy to load em on to my laptop. Ill try and get around to posting them tonight.
*shakes a poking stick at MikeBun*
Don’t make me use it….. you wouldn’t like the poking stick.
that looks amazing!!! where is the sign-up sheet for mike to do the next one?!?!?! im SOOOOO on it!!! (Heifer and Moose are most DEFIENTLY jealous!!)
Yep, Lintini, time to box MikeBun up and ship him out to the next in line for a mansion. We’re on a deadline here, bunnies are demanding!
wow thats beautiful!!!!! just wondering where we are starting the line up for mikebun? (psst…..mikebun…..i’ll throw in some raisins for jack if i can be next! lol)
Thanks all for the wonderful comments, I am so glad you all like it! I couldn’t stop talking about making it at work! Indy loves the cage so much. I think my coworkers think I am insane since I was so into it. It’s really nice not having that eye sore in my room anymore with a sheet roof…sigh. I never did get around to making that top for it. Lol – my temporary ramps are held down with hair clips
P.S.
Thanks again Mike for making it for me ^_^
I see he’s making sure to make it His too hehe
That is GREAT!!!!! Can I put those photos in the “Cool Habitats” Gallery?
BB- Yes please!! Thank you, that would be awesome!
MonkeyBun- OH yes…let the poop trail and rubbing begin!
mrmac – Bonding is still up in the air with Bun. Bee is only 3 months old so I still have to wait a few months. Fortunetly I am 95% sure unless something goes wrong after the spay with Bee (if she smells weird to Indy) they are going to have a very easy bond. Indy adores her and they both flop for eachother from their cages and groom through the bars. So hopefully he will still like her after her spay. I am really leary about bonding the females. I guess I will start with Indy and Bee, then bond Bee to Bun? Petzy will have to mentor me through this. I’m just trying my best right now to manage the poop wars!! I think it’s so cute that they like eachother, I am very very excited to get her spayed and bond them. Poor Bun will be the akward 3rd wheel. hehe. So for now i’m just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping I am very lucky! So for now Indy gets to enjoy his large bacehlor pad until 1 of the ladies moves in
lemonysnicket: Do you have bikes too? The Roadliner is my dads…that’s the one that is covered, and the suzuki is my brothers. I ride on the back with my dad and my brother rides with us. We had a really nice time in the fall going to half moon bay and eating lunch together. It’s hard these days finding a time where the “kids” (well we’re both in college now) and Dad has free time to spend together on a ride and lunch. It was a really fun and simple time that I will remember forever. It was so much fun. My Dad cracks up because I bonk his head with my helmet a lot and I guess my mom does the same when she rides with him. hehehe!
either thats a HUGE cage or indy is smaller than i thought
MirBear… its a huge cage lol.
WOW That’s an amazing dwelling!!! Job well done MikeBun. (hmmmm, wondering if I could convince/nag my husband into building one for Peyton)
I had a good time building it for Lintini and Indy, even though I was so sore this morning i could barely reach my feet to put my socks on. I’m flattered that you want to put pics of it on the page, you have my permission to as well.
Lol, the line for people wanting a custom cage seems to be getting pretty long. I might have a good side profession in the brewing. hehe
And thank you everyone. I’m glad everyone likes it
I got so excited when i saw these pics that last night me and my dad went and bought the supplies and built a cage today! we kind of copied you but it looks a little different. pics in a second.
im the youngest.. i should be first on the list
Nice job mocha
my dad did most of it
mocha hasn’t used the ramps yet how long so you think i will take for him to use them?
Ok you guys. I’m so jealous now, even though my bunnies have really nice nic cages. I want a fancy cage like Lintini and Mocha and Mikebun!
Mocha, looking the pics, the ramps seem kind of steep. Whats on them to keep him from sliding? Mocha might just be nervous about these weird floor things that are tilted
there are little pieces of wood about a inch apart on the ramps. i thought they looked kind of steep to but we can change them if we need to.
Might want to try attaching something with a little more grip for his little paws, like what lintini has. Just to see what mocha thinks. Little towels or some such.
wow mocha, that looks great. give your dad kudos for me… and an ice pack lol
There’s only a few things that concern me with wooden structures for rabbits, and mostly because mine are such great chewers:
A) What kind of wood was used and,
B) If you are using screws of drywall screws…how do you ensure that no sharp edges can be exposed for bun to hurt itself on?
Would the constructors be so kind as to post your materials and the lengths/amounts used? Many thankies!
Wow Mocha200 – your dad did a great job!! Such wonderful changes happening for you and your bunnies. I’m so happy for you. What a great dad you have! I would also like to put your photos in the habitats gallery too! I also agree you can probably change the slope of the ramps to be a bit more gentle. Let us know how that goes and update us with photos.
And MikeBun – you could absolutely do a side business, especially if you are in the bay area. Which has a many many rabbit rescues and shelters that do such a great job with rabbit adoptions around here. You could just send out some brochures with your “Custom Rabbitat Masterpieces” that could be sent out with the adoption packets. (for the people who adopt the bunnies).
I’ll be putting in the photos in the gallery hopefully by tomorrow night. Once they are in you can always have people check them out in the gallery for a quick way to view your work.
Mocha your cage is awesome! That was really really nice of your dad to make for you! My dad needs to finish my case for my baton for conducting band/orchestra. That’s what is in one of those photos I posted first – the purple wood. It’s called purple heart. I can’t wait to show it off at school lol. He hasn’t worked on it in months though! *pokes dad* My dad has made me so many guinea pig runs, cages, houses…and awhile ago he was cutting pvc pipe for my pigs 2 story cage lol. Ahh Dad’s are great aren’t they?
Mimz I can answer part of your question. Those aren’t Drywall screws. Drywall screws have a different coating and are made different. These are just wood working screws. The hole is drilled first so the screw actually goes in a smidge deeper than being dead even with the wood so there is no way they could hurt themselves on the head of the screw. You can buy screws of appropriate length to ensure they won’t poke through – and even if that happened you could just take it out and redo it or you could sauder it off if you really needed it there. Mike can go into more detail about screws but really when you drill the hole first it sets the screw deeper in the wood so you don’t worry about it.
we might make a new ramp today but i am not sure. i wasn’t here when he made the ramps so i couldn’t really help him but i don’t want to make a big deal out of it because he did the best he could!
he is using the ramps! i put him on the second level and when i left the room he got down! then i came on the laptop in my room and he got really hyper playing with his tp roll and doing binkys and then he just ran up the ramp! he must have just been scared at first.
Yay! *pats Mocha* Good bunbun!
i forgot to add that it would be great if you put it in the cool habitat!
