Hi, I am going to be getting a rabbit soon and I know that she/he will live the happiest life inside but my parents keeps saying they are stinky and messy. I know that’s not true but if I argue/explain and try to defend my point they get frustrated, I want to have 2 rabbits that live inside but my parents also say I can only get one, any advice on how to convince them to get 2 bunnies and let them live inside? I have done research for a year and I know what’s best for them. I really want to have 2 that live inside. I have tried to tell my parents that I will keep it clean and if it starts to smell, I will clean it more, PLEASE HELP!!!! I NEED to convince my parents or else I will have 1 bunny living outside that is only allowed to come in when playing. My parents don’t understand how much I want 2 bunnies and how much I am stressing that I will keep it clean. I will do anything, even more chores, they still say no. Please help and give advice on how to convince them to get 2 AND let them live INSIDE.

P.S: Sorry that I keep saying stuff over and over again.

Do you have any rabbit rescues near you or rabbits available through shelters like SPCA?  Perhaps your parents would be open to the idea of fostering a rabbit or a pair so the whole family will get an idea of what it is like having rabbits indoors?  In the months following Easter there is unfortunately an influx of rabbits coming into shelters.  Easter gifts that people are getting overwhelmed with or baby rabbits that are reaching a messy, puberty age.

The benefit of fostering first is the animals are usually already desexed so you get a more true idea of what their character is like and you’re less likely having to deal with hormonal behaviours (which contribute to smell and messiness for a while).

Some places might even offer things like exercise pens you can loan.

Please do not specify your age here, but if you are a minor and would like to foster, you would need your parents to be the ones to apply. So technically they’d be responsible (and financially responsible) but you can make deal with them that you’ll take on the care required.

My parents said that I can adopt 2, but they want them to live outside, I want them to live inside.

I would discourage you from getting a rabbit if the only way your parents would allow it is if it lived outdoors. Plus, I’m doubtful a rescue will allow you to adopt a rabbit (or pair) if they knew your intentions were to house it outside.

I do agree with JG, if you foster a rabbit, it will give you the opportunity to have a rabbit live inside your house without the commitment. If your parents decide a rabbit isn’t right for your household, then the foster will simply go back to the rescue after the foster period is over. No harm done.
