That’s really great they will let you try out another bun! I’m sure they will help you find a good match.

I’ve been through that process as well (sending a bun back after failed bonding). It is really hard getting attached to a bun and then sending them back, but you can consider your girl’s time with you as a little vacation away from the…[Read more]

I consulted with the rescue and she agreed that these two are probably not compatible as both are very dominant. Since yesterday’s bad encounter they now like to lie side by side along the shared fence “peacefully”. I used to think it as a good sign. Now I know they are probably just guarding their boundaries. We agreed to exchange the girl for a…[Read more]

Yeah I think the recommendations vary a lot by breed. Giant breeds need a year, whereas smaller breeds don’t need that long. Generally 6month old bunnies seem to have most of their length and height by that age, but they continue to “fill out” a bit in their muscle mass. I think most people agree that by the time they are 7 months old they also…[Read more]

    Question 1: Definitely scent glands.

Question 2: I say lionhead because I have a rex rabbit so I have room for more fur in my life.

Question 3: Mittens sounds super cute! (And silly 😄)

Question 4: Very difficult! But I choose c because of the glimpse in that beautiful eye.

Question 5: A whole house built of apple sticks would be wonderful! My…[Read more]

Awesome, thanks. All makes sense to me.

At this point, they’ve been together nearly 48 hours straight with only a few minor moments I took note of (I’ve slept right near them both nights + had my husband’s help for supervising). Outside of one five-second chase that almost seemed like playing (no hair pulling) and one non-dramatic grooming rebuff…[Read more]

Yeah, I think my buns would love the apple stick house too. And haha, in 4, answer c… she looks like she’s peeking around the corner.

    Cute!

    1. ooooh this really depends on the rabbits LOL, but I’d probably rather clean the pen!
    2. Flemish Giant!
    3. Sunglasses!
    4. I think c as well!
    5. I think my buns would def go for the apple stick house!

Thank you. I’ve seen mixed instructions on how long to feed alfalfa – the Oxbow bag says for one year and other resources say to stop around 5-6 months. I’ve been giving Scout just a small amount mixed in with her timothy pellets, and I’m working on weaning Smudge back into the alfalfa. I did buy a couple small bags of alfalfa hay so I will be…[Read more]

    Bummer 🙁

I think it might be time to try a car ride or a new location if you’re up for it.

    That sounds great!

My rule of thumb for bonding is that they’ve been together 48 hours with plenty of positive behaviors and no negative behaviors (a little nip is OK, but no serious chasing or fur pulling), and I restart that clock any time I move them into a new location. You also may get a sense that they are fine during the day, but overnight…[Read more]

I hadn’t considered a Havana. Scout’s facial structure really reminds me of a Palomino, but I know that I’ll never know for sure. I did have a Rex in the past with the harlequin pattern and I have two mini Rex’s currently, neither of the littles have the plushy Rex fur. I’m excited to see how they fill out as they grow, they are both so adorable…[Read more]

I agree that it sounds like some sort of pain is happening. I think the ear scratching and over grooming thing could mean that he has some sort of ear problem still happening.

Have there been any changes around your house or even your neighborhood? Like nearby construction or a new pet in the house hold? Rabbits can hear and smell things we…[Read more]

Given they are 18 months old, they are old enough to do it now. I would probably aim to do it before they are 2. They start to see cancers showing up around age 3 and 4.

    They are very cute!

Regarding your feed question, your boy should probably still be on alfalfa pellets if he’s only 4.5 months old. Some people like to feed alfalfa pellets until they reach a year old, but others  transition them to timothy pellets around 6-7 months. For simplicity, you could give them both alfalfa pellets but just feed your…[Read more]

Sorry I missed that it was only 5 days prior to the onset of this behavioral change. If this is about psychological trauma from the vet visit, I’d think it wouldve started right away after the vet visit. It’d also be rare for a bun to not “recover” from a scary  et visit for weeks.

So I would still suspect pain of some sort, and unless he had…[Read more]
