Thanks for filling out the template!

It’s good you’ve been doing litter box swaps! If you can, you can also set them up side by side (with a buffer between the pens) and swap who’s on what side every day or two.

So bonding takes a bit more time, even in easy bonds. The basic idea is that you supervise them in neutral territory while they sort…[Read more]

Hi @sophia.o_c ! This is a very old topic, so you are unlikely to get any replies. It will be best if you start a new thread with your question! You can copy the Bonding Template and paste it into your post so we can get more info about your bunnies. 🙂

Do you feel they tend to get better towards the end of the bonding sessions when they are long? Or are they just building frustration? I wonder if maybe shorter sessions would help you not have to intervene so much?

    Thanks for using the template!

So, in my experience with a scared/shy bun, it’s best to go really slowly through the bonding process and not push them too hard. I think this is the best way to prevent a false hierarchy from establishing.

In terms of what to allow, I do think it’s important to allow Bella to set her boundaries with Glenn, so I…[Read more]

I noticed five days ago he stopped drinking water and ate less hay. The next day I took him to the vet which honestly did not change the situation at all. I am still giving him the medication they gave me though.  What I ended up doing yesterday on my own is giving him a whole cucumber once a day for hydration. Today I see that he is eating a bit…[Read more]

Mounting can occur in bonded pairs (it does in mine), it’s just part of the dynamic sometimes and has nothing to do with mating. I’ve seen both the “submissive” and “dominant” bun mount. I try not to get too caught up in which bun is dominant, because I’m half convinced the buns think they are both dominant LOL.

If it is leading to any sort of…[Read more]

Feeding them veggies and pellets together is great, either during pre-bonding (so separated by a barrier), or during bonding sessions, as long as one bun doesn’t get food aggressive.

When they approached either other’s neck, were his ears forward or back? He was probably considering mounting if his ears were facing forwards. If that’s the case,…[Read more]

Hello everyone. Such cute fluffs! So lucky that owen is a little lap bunny! Glenn will snuggle into my leg or even chest when I’m laying down for ages but will never get on my lap 😂.

I have finally found a way to add photos into posts! Yay!

Here are my two lionheads on a bonding date having a little snuggle. Glenn (black) and recent adoptee…[Read more]

Do you think he might be getting gassy or uncomfortable for some reason? Do you use pellets to get him to go in? Just want to make sure something health related is ruled out before deciding he’s just stubborn. :p

Is it a big jump for him to go in? Maybe adding a ramp could help?

I have experienced this before, it’s so annoying! I usually end up using the less preferred hay to line their boxes with, and put the hay they like in their hay rack. Some things you just can’t force them on!

I use pine pellets but I put a fluffy layer of hay on top so it’s softer on their feet.

Can you give a better picture of the timeline of events and his diet and medications? I’m just not sure of the timings of things.

Recovery from stasis can be pretty slow, so it can be important to continue supportive care until the bun is back to normal. If he isn’t eating hay normally, you should be syringe feeding critical care to make sure…[Read more]

Hmmm, I don’t think shredded wheat would be good for buns lacking access to hay although it’s probably an OK occasional treat. Although it’s high fiber relative to a dog’s carnivore diet, it’s high starch relative to grass (an herbivore’s diet).

In a case where hay is hard to come by, I think a variety of natural forage would probably be the best…[Read more]

When I had to give pen-g injections to one from a bonded pair I never separated them (but caveat that the other bun didn’t do much of the grooming in the pair). If it’s injected properly there really shouldn’t be any coming out. I think trimming the hair is a good idea if it helps you see. I think separating for that long is pretty…[Read more]
