You could perhaps put cold compresses on the ears, to try and get the itch down? Not ice cold and only for a few minutes at a time.

Oh! i did this too once and bought a 20lb box of hay that my guys didn’t like. I was able to get them to eat it over time by fluffing it around in a box of their prefered hay so their feeder would be 2/3 hay they like and 1/3 hay they didn’t care for. It was a slow process but eventually they ate it all

What a naughty girl! But glad to hear she’s eating and obviously feeling well enough for some shenanigans!

My senior bun, Bun Jovi, has always tended to be an obsessive mounter during dates too. It settles down over time! One thing that helped with him was adding some neutral tunnels and obstacles (like a box open on two sides) to the bonding area to allow the other bun to have an escape route, assuming your bonding area is large enough.

    If…[Read more]

My bunny is eating normally and even passing urine and pooping. The only problem is that his eyes are red and won’t stop itching his ears. Unfortunately in my country we only have 1 vet open for emergencies and they don’t specialize in rabbits. When I called they told me it this normal but I am still very worried.

I agree with GlennTheLionhead, the normal side effects are mild lethargy and maybe some soreness (some buns will favor one front paw for a bit), that should resolve within 24 hours. My buns all were just a bit “quiet” the day of their shots, but normal the next day and ate normally etc.  If you are seeing a lot of itching and swelling you should…[Read more]

And yes, “free choice” means the pellets are available all the time. There is a bit more info on this in that article I linked. There are some brands that are formulated to be fed this way, or people will just use their usual pellets. With two bunnies, it may be a bit tricky, but you could possible separate them briefly a few times a day to allow…[Read more]

It is possible that it could be coccidea, so it’s good that you are treating for it. Many (most probably) rabbits carry the parasite and don’t show symptoms (especially if they are adult). Sometimes a stressful event can trigger symptoms and require treatment. Since she has some symptoms and tested positive it’s good that you are treating for it.…[Read more]

    Hey,

I am in the UK and have been through vaccination for myxomatosis and RVHD 1&2 several times with 3 different rabbits and I can’t say that any have ever shown any symptoms of a reaction after a vaccination. Not meaning to worry you, but just wanted to be clear that symptoms after vaccinations at least in the UK should not be anything more…[Read more]

Unfortunately the vet is closed at this time and the only vet open for emergencies does not specialize in rabbits and said it was normal

I would absolutely call the vet and report these symptoms. While I have no experience with vaccines (due to the US not requiring it in my area), the red eyes seem like an especially concerning side effect. Worst case scenario, you call and the vet says it’s fine.

Hi! I’m hoping someone can help me out.

I have a 1 year old rabbit and I took him for his yearly vaccine today and gave him a check up. The Vet told me he is completely healthy and even checked his ears to make sure he has no mites.

When we got home my bunny started acting very quite and eyes and nose look very red. He is also itching his ears a…[Read more]

Yes I’m hoping that because there have never been outright fights yet that they will be able to bond.

I see! So it seems then they still have a little way to go to build trust and just sort out their dynamics. I do feel they want to be friends when they aren’t arguing over boss bunny. I do agree there’s no point getting too caught up in their…[Read more]

Ellie, needless to say I was quite upset. I’d fixed her a “perfect” enclosure of about 6 sq m, with clean ragrugs, vetbeds, pee pads, a buffet of grass and hay and herbs and pellets, a warm water bottle and a matress on the floor for me to spend her first night home sleeping next to her. I ended up putting her in a plastic bottom rabbit cage for…[Read more]

Although I understand that Sweetie’s symptoms match megacolon, could it be possible that she’s experiencing these symptoms due to coccidia? Her fecal sample tested positive for it. She’s on Albon for it right now. When I got her she was about 4 months old and if I remember correctly about when she was 6 months old I tested her for coccidia becau…[Read more]

Free choice pellets means having pellets available at all times.

I had some Megacolon rat babies born when one of my females escaped and bred with the wrong male.  Genetically, I never would have paired those two, it is also sometimes refered to as “high white” and is an issue with many species.  Unfortunately,  those babies had to be eu…[Read more]
