Well I spoke too soon, they escaped from my barrier when I went out of the room, so they found more of their stuff I put in the other room and now are running back and forth together.. phew.

I’m trying to add a picture of what his litter box looked like this morning, but for some reason it won’t let me.

When he was at the teaching hospital for stasis back in August, they did full X-rays and lab work and both were normal, so I know that there isn’t an underlying medical issue. It seems that every time I freak myself out about this, he just corrects it and ends up just fine. I guess bunnies can go through phases just like humans do, where t…[Read more]

He gets 1 tbsp. of Oxbow Adult Timothy Pellets in the morning and 1 tbsp. in the evening. He used to get unlimited pellets, but I think that contributed to the stasis back in August, so I cut back. He probably gets about 1 of the Oxbow treats per day (I cut them up into pieces) but they are quite large. He also gets unlimited Oxbow Timothy Hay. At…[Read more]

Thank you and thanks for all your help along the way!!! I did not expect this to be a 3 month journey 🙂
Their room is decent sized, but at least they won’t be roaming the hall or getting the chance to go under my futon just yet. I might let them out later tonight depending on how they do.. but so far so good! I got them back to the permanent…[Read more]

It’s good to be vigilant, and I think the poops you noticed were worth paying attention to!
How many treats does he get per day, and how many pellets? It could just be that he’s getting a bit too many, which is keeping him from eating enough hay. Perhaps it’s not that he’s adjusting to you, but that you’ve been so excited to see him…[Read more]

This morning I had a great litter box full of poop and he came running out of his cardboard box for his morning treat, so I may just be overthinking this. There have been multiple days that he has just slept all day and didn’t poop until 9 or 10 pm. I flipped out and thought something was wrong, but he ends up eventually popping every time. M…[Read more]

He hasn’t eaten any new treats, veggies, etc. but I have been giving him more treats (Oxbow Simple Rewards), so maybe that is the cause. I’m also trying to adjust the amount of pellets that he is eating to see if that will help. I did just get home from college a few weeks ago, so maybe he’s still adjusting to me being home? He just had his annua…[Read more]

Yeah I agree about face nips! They are a lot more stressful and it’s good to try to prevent them.

This does sound like hormonal behavior (including the stinky-ness). Are you very certain they are both males and were both neutered? (Neutering is the term for castrating males, spaying is for females). Just asking because sometimes people get rabbits from sources where they might not get correct info (could be told they have a neutered male when…[Read more]

Shedding does seem to coincide with GI problems in a lot of buns. Dehydration and reduced hay consumption can also cause issues. And of course stress as well, if there has been a new source of stress in your home. Has he eaten any new veggies that might be causing issues? Perhaps a visiting family member giving too many treats? I remember a case…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Rabbit Losing Weight in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 7 months ago
A drop from 2.2 kg to 1.6 kg is a huge weight loss (if I read your post correctly). If that is what the weight loss was, you should have him checked out at the vet to see what’s going on.
If the vet rules out other undiagnosed medical causes, they may have you supplement his diet with critical care to help him put back on the weight in a healthy…[Read more]

Hi all, my two bunnies Hummus and Freddie have been bonded for a few years now. They are both males, and both spayed, and usually get along quite well. Hummus is the dominant bun and lately he’s been harassing Freddie more than usual. I put them in the cage at night because they share my bedroom and I don’t want them jumping on my face at 4 a.m.…[Read more]

Hi everyone! Good news- I brought a stool sample to my vet this morning. They did a fecal float in the office and it was negative for parasites and they are sending a sample to the lab just to confirm the results. He seemed to be a little bit gassy last night and he had some more irregular poops, but he ended up eating and pooping wonderfully…[Read more]

Update: We have been in semi neutral for 24 hours, and they are acting completely bonded now! Yay!! Once they go to sleep for the afternoon I plan to clean and re-arrange their final home. I think they are ready to move up there today. They typically get 2 bedrooms and a hall, so I’m thinking keep them in the one room at least for a few hours…[Read more]

Thank you for your feedback! It makes me feel a lot better that you felt this was a positive date. I don’t separate when I suspect they might nip, I just tend to keep a hand nearby to separate if they do get aggressive. I know that the nipping will bit part of their process to establish hierarchy, but I would prefer butt nips and not face nips.…[Read more]

I think that sounds like a pretty positive date to me. Uninterested is totally fine, it means the bun isn’t really threatened by the others, so I don’t think you need to force any interactions at this phase. Choosing to eat, groom, and relax is a choice that she made after she decided the other buns were “safe”, which is great.
Rather than…[Read more]

If your rabbit is losing weight or having trouble maintaining a healthy a weight despite a healthy, age and size-appropriate diet (https://binkybunny.com/infocategory/healthy-diet/), then you should take your rabbit to a rabbit-experienced exotic vet for assessment. At-home treatments are not recommended for rabbits. Medication administration and…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Would this be OK hay? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 7 months ago
My suspicion is that the amount of alfalfa may be too high in the mixed bales (or your buns would just start picking out all the alfalfa).
I agree you could look for other types of grass hay, such as oat, bermuda grass or rye grass.
