Oat hay is a healthy primary hay source for rabbits as long as they don’t selectively eat only the seed stalks and ignore the grassy parts. Different cuts of oat hay also have different amounts of seeds. I was feeding my buns oat for a while to see to entice a chronically ill bun to eat and they had the most beautiful round golden poops.

Did your vet instruct you to syringe feed? If she is eating, drinking, and pooping, I think a blockage is really unlikely (plus you already visited the vet). You should offer her anything she would like to eat (hay and veggies) on her own (not sure if you are worried more about syringe feeding or offering her food in general). If she’s eating a…[Read more]

Yes, I cut out any treats with the exception of her digestive biscuit from oxbow. But she went back down 3 days ago. I took her to the vet yesterday and he suggested to introduce those veggies to her. I wouldn’t be able to give her dry veggies because she is refusing to drink and her wet veggies are one of the only sources of water I’m able to get…[Read more]

It’s true that some rabbits are very sensitive to things, so just trying a little at a time is a good way to test out what agrees with your bun. I remember some member’s bun would have issues if he ate a single browned mint leaf! If I remember correctly, your bun had more of an issue with fruit and treats?

If your bun is prone to gas, then I…[Read more]

Yeah, she’s been having up and down GI problems and my vet told me yesterday to introduce some endive and kale because they could give her some extra fiber. But, I’m worried about it making her gas worse.

Seeing the hair coming through is not necessarily a bad thing (as it means it’s coming out), especially if the poops are still a bit spaced out.

I think you are on the right track with more frequent brushing!

That makes a lot of sense, since glass doesn’t conduct heat as well, plus being in a warmer part of their hutch.

I was going to suggest looking into watering systems for chickens, as I think they have some ways of dealing with ice as well.

I wanted to say, if your rabbit is sensitive, don’t give them collards, bc from my experience they can be pretty gassy and cause looser stools. Don’t feed cabbage either, bunnies shouldn’t have that whether they are sensitive or not, bc it is really gassy.

I hope your bunny stays well! 🙂

    I have some good news.

I tried putting a thick glass bowl in an enclosed area of the hutch instead of a stainless steel bowl in the more open part of the hutch, and guess what?

The water didn’t freeze, even though it was 26 degrees Fahrenheit outside! I also pushed a cloth up around it and there was hay in the water for part of the night. (I put…[Read more]

I was at the vet yesterday, she said she doesn’t hear any movement in her stomach. She gave her fluids and medication to give at home. When we came home after like two hours she started eating hay on her own. And it was a lot i was surprised, she even drank water by herself.

I have not given her anything else to eat tho as I’m scared. She is not…[Read more]

What if she started eating hay and drinking water by herself? She even went to the toilet like four times today. I offered her one pellet and she ate it too.

Well yesterday we were at the vet and she told me it is stasis that she doesn’t hear any gurgling or movement in the stomach.

She gave her fluids, and some medication to give at home. She started eating hay and drinking water by herself and she had normal poop except today she left one pile of moist dark droppings still full of hay just wet.

    She…[Read more]

Thanks @Wick and Fable for changing the title! I will likely do an edit and direct people to the end with a summary when I get a little more time.  Otherwise probably too much for anyone to follow.

@Bam, agree, they are too smart (or at least stubborn) for their own good! That is great to hear you are planning to bond Snoa! One thing I notice is…[Read more]

Hey everyone!! I was definitely worried last night because his poops were all different shapes and sizes and they were all connected by hair, but after a very thorough brushing, I am happy to report that I woke up to a litter box full of absolutely gorgeous poop with minimal hair. I’m going to brush him today and tomorrow before I leave and I h…[Read more]

Oat hay is really high in fat and more of a treat so that shouldn’t be the main hay. Maybe you could order online, binky bunny, small pet select, oxbow are some.

If you have a long-haired bunny it is best to groom every day.
