I’m glad you went in and found the problem!

When my bun had a jaw abscess I believe I did penicillin shots every other day for 6 weeks (but I can’t quite recall).

The first few will be stressful, but you will get the hang of it. Deep breaths! My bun barely noticed the shots, it was easier than syringe feeding for sure. the first time I gave one…[Read more]

Stasis recovery can be slow and it’s normal for there to be some mixed sizes of poops as the intestines come back “online”. The important thing is that she’s eating and pooping.

Unless she’s sensitive to greens, usually it’s good to offer stasis bunnies whatever they feel like eating (except treats and fruits). The greens add water which also…[Read more]

This article gives some info on treatments of stasis that you can share with your vet, and may be helpful to you as well: http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/ileus.html#:~:text=Symptoms%20of%20GI%20stasis%20include,be%20treated%20as%20an%20emergency.

Since the vet was not rabbit savvy, they may not have known what to do. What treatments have you been giving him? Have you been syringe feeding? If a rabbit doesn’t eat for more than 12 hours that is a medical emergency and they can die very quickly when you get past 24 hours of no food.

The posture you describe is how buns sit when they are in…[Read more]

One more thing that I forgot to add, I did give him 1 cc of Babyak drops 3 days ago when his stomach was acting up a bit. He is super hard to medicate, so about half of it got in his mouth and the other half ended up all over his nose and face and he ran away and cleaned his face off. I assume if this were aspiration pneumonia, I would be seeing a…[Read more]

Hi, these are the poop from today. Most of them totally normal just smaller than usual and other are small and some dark/moist.

I found some in other litter box from the night which are gewy like a cecotrope but not a cecotrope. They were attached to the normal ones. I hope you know what I mean.

The bunny is hopping and running around again…[Read more]

It is yet another “Bunny Not Eating” question but with a nuance which I have not seen asked before.

We have had a bun for a while now. Active etc, friendly, eats and poops a lot.

About 10 days back, he all but stopped eating. He has been drinking reasonable amounts of water.

We do not have vets here who specialize in small animals. So we took…[Read more]

The broken gene could be mixed in there, although it’s not as well known for causing a single white paw. It sounds like his brother is a broken pattern though, so that’s a possibility.

New Zealand is another breed to consider. Broken pattern is common.

Thank you LBJ! I’ve never heard of those types of bunnies (I’m new at this) but I’m excited to learn! Interestingly enough, his brother is the same shape but completely white with a few black spots. Thanks, for identifying Max’s color!!! When filling out vet paperwork, I would put ‘a mix of brown, black, auburn…’. LOL! But now I know!

Sorry your having trouble finding a match! I know what your going through, it took me about 3 months to finally find the *perfect* match for my boy and I couldn’t even speed date them because she was a 1.5 he drive away. I would just like to say hang in there, it might take time but you will find the match! I think one day I got so frustrated it…[Read more]

Yes she said to syringe feed until she is not eating on her own. Which was only one day and she is eating hay now.

So I can give her greens too? Wont it be bad for her?

Thank you so much for your reassurance and advice. I completely agree with everything that you said. I just spent about 2 hours in my room with him, and he is totally normal as far as I can tell. He is playing, binkying, eating, drinking, pooping, and begging for treats and I haven’t heard any more weird sneezing/coughing sounds. I really do s…[Read more]

If you are taking fine care of your rabbit, including but not limited to proper diet, clean environment, and general good husbandry practices, it would be highly unusual for pneumonia to suddenly appear out of nowhere. A mild URI is much more common than full-blown pneumonia. You’ll see here (https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Pneumonia) that the…[Read more]

I tried separating them tonight again and this time he ate most of his too! He left a little bit behind and then when I let Bear back in, he tried to guard it, but not eat it. I tried dumping the leftovers throughout the cage and then he didn’t seem to care. He’s such a weird little rabbit lol. I think he’s more tense and territorial than usual…[Read more]

I’m just incredibly paranoid about pneumonia since I know it’s almost always fatal (this forum has scared me about pneumonia) so I usually get really anxious when he sneezes/coughs even though last time, back in September, his vet reassured me that it’s very rare and sneezing is usually due to irritation from hay/fur or a mild URI- not pneumonia.

I only noticed it today. I could go pick up a new bag of hay tomorrow. I get the same brand every time (Oxbow Western Timothy) but each bag varies a little bit in texture, how much dust, etc. so I may have just gotten an extra dusty bag? It would be the same hay, just a different bag. I just listened to him breathe by putting my ear near his nose…[Read more]

If it was just this one incident, then I would just watch him. Are you able to switch the hay out for something different?
